400w Reeflux bulb on HQI Ballast

Thanks Kevin, I just tried for about 30 minutes, no changes. Was worried it might damage it further. You think I should try it a little longer? If so I will. If not if you could trade in for me that would be great. Don't want you to be out any money though, being I didn't buy it from you:oops...

400w Reeflux bulb on HQI Ballast

Really! I'll give it a shot, don't have nothing to loose. Doesn't sound like they'll replace it anyway. If it works cool, if not oh well. Lick my wounds and move on. If it doesn't work I think I'll try the G. Mega Chrome 13.5k. Heard some good thing about it. Would really like to find the Aqua...

400w Reeflux bulb on HQI Ballast

Kevin, You run Reeflux bulbs correct? Ever had one new out of the box that would not fire? I just recieved one the other day, installed it using a standard ballast and it wouldn't light. Just a very small flicker. So I put on a PFO hqi ballast, still didn't light. Just a blue arc across the...

    Low Tech SPS tank

I will post before and after photos after 90 days. I doubt any of my corals are going to grow 2" in a month. I only have one stag, which grow like weeds anyway. I have 2 milles, 2 pocillipora and 2 stylophora. The rest are much slower growers such as austera, sarmentosa, A. soli, tenius, nana...

    Low Tech SPS tank

When I feed the recipe what little fiberous meats that are in the cube get eaten very quickly by the fish. They love it! I'm getting fantasic results with this blue coral method the Italians came up with. They are getting ready to release an article in ReefItalia which will be translated to...

    cooling fans

www.windywilly.com is another place to check out. I bought 2 120mm fans with variable voltage for 45.00. They don't charge for shipping. Pretty darn quiet too.......

    T5 Lighting questions

That's understandable, I'm originally from Ventura, Ca. No air there either, during the summer months it sometimes would reach the 90's. Since I quit using a canopy I've found it much easier to control the tank temp. I doubt I'll ever use one again. The tank is able to breath so to speak and...

    T5 Lighting questions

^^^^^ I use no supplemental lights, just the MH. If you plan to go mostly sps then MH will be your best bet. Otherwise overdriving the T5's would be your best bet. I don't know if the Tek is overdriven. If your running a mixed tank just keep the sps in the upper half of the tank. Sps is not all...

    T5 Lighting questions

spectroradiometer, sorry about that, my bad. I started scrolling thru the thread to find the numbers, but the dang thread is about 65 pages. I've been following it since it started. The GrimReefer and Hahnmeister both have taken readings. Hahn just recently did several tests, taking readings at...

    T5 Lighting questions

If you read the T5 Q&A thread on RC, the Grimreefer and a few other have taken par readings with spectrometers, when overdriven they can produce as much par as some 250w MH bulbs with better coverage. There are alot of people with very successful tanks, with sps. But you need individual...

    Fragging SPS

Yep, no problems, cut it glue it to a piece of rubble or live rock and your good to go. If you glue it at an angle it will branch quicker, assuming your gluing a single piece with no branches. Otherwise you can just glue it horizontally. I myself don't glue frags laying down, cause you loose the...

    salvaging a sps

Depends, what bulb were you running before? 10k? If so, being your going to a 12k bulb your going to loose some par intensity, so you may be able to keep them where they are. If you want to be on the side of safety you could raise them 4 or 5 inches and lower them back down a little at a time...

    salvaging a sps

I run mine at 1.026, closer to NSW levels. I think with the larger Seios and bulbs you should see some improvements. I'd slowly raise the specif gravity over a few weeks.
