    Sally Lightfoot and Peppermint Shrimp

You can definately hear a pistol though. I really love my pistol shrimp, been 2 years and have not bothered other critters. I'd be interested in seeing if you can collect a 'queen', hearing they are the only eusocial animals discovered thus far in the ocean. I'd love me a underwater 'ant...

    Sally Lightfoot and Peppermint Shrimp

The emerald crab I threw in the tank did a great job of killing the tube snails and the bub algae. Once they were gone, all he did was move rocks out of place and pester my corals. I'd be very careful with crabs, they can do more harm then good sometimes.

    Curing Live Rock

Cheaper to place them in buckets/tubs. Wouldn't want to ruin an acryllic tank curing rock unless its got scratches already.

    Ricordea changes colors?

I thought Chrolophyll was always green, but zooxanthalae was more of a brown algae (dinoflag.). But corals aren't always green or brown, so I wonder if it there are other pigments that come into play or the way light reflects off the tissue surface. Anyone know what gives coral their colors?

    live rock storage

Coraline algae can be reseeded, I'm not too worried. I'd rather not have too much of that growing on rock as they seem to use their fair share of Ca. The LR don't need to be decorated with coraline algae so much for me since I run out of real estate quickly it seems.

    live rock storage

No, the buckets were basically sealed for most of the year. The LR had some serious salt crystals on them. Some of the live rock took on an orange hue, and the smell of anaerobic bacteria was plentiful. We have a 200 gallon rated skimmer ( friend says it was a demo euroreef model) working...

    live rock storage

And it smelled like fresh flowers after a brief spring rain. Fabreeze should package it and sell it.

    live rock storage

Friend and I just started curing two buckets of Live rock that had been sitting in 5 gallon buckets since April 2008. The lid was not on airtight, and the buckets still had some salt water in it during the entire period. We dumped the contents outside for a day or two, but was very very...

lowest temperature for mixed reef tank

I believe inverts and corals can deal with temp swings better, but Lee Birch in her forum stated this ;http://www.reeffrontiers.com/forums/showthread.php?t=27191&highlight=temperature+drop+fish From that post; "Some interesting information and things to know: a. A sudden drop in temperature as...

    My 100g from Italy

Great looking tank!! By the way, how popular is reef keeping in Italy? I have a friend from the states that lives in Italy during the spring and summer who was somewhat interested in starting a frag tank in Tuscana.

I need your: comments, opinions, answers, etc. (PICS INSIDE)

Is that a black cowrie I see? I think I have the same one (cyprea caputserpentis) and that guy used to eat green star polyps as well as coralline algae from time to time. If you like your polyps, watch that guy.

    shrimp molting?

I recorded my sexy shrimp molting on one of our cell phones but I can't locate it atm. I noticed it since it was arching its back at an odd angle, and it wasn't moving its legs at all. Then the back split open and it literally jumped out of its old shell. The shrimp remained very frail and...

    Dying xenia

Are the xenias bending over and attaching to rocks? I've seen the xenias do that to spread on rocks. It may be just trying to grow around the frog spawn. I was hoping on using my frog spawn to keep the pompom xenias in check so I'm very interested in how the xenias do. Xenias should survive...
