    DIY skimmer #2

Guys, With such big skimmers. I really think you should start feeding more. :) Hehe DonW, I was wondering when you would start collecting less and less skimmate since your skimmer is sized much higher than your total gallonage. I honestly think you could adequately handle a 1000+ system...

    DIY skimmer #2

DonW, Could you please post a pic of the main chamber? I really want to get an idea of how large the bubbles are in the water column. A thumb or a ruler next to the chamber might help. Thanks!!! Peace, John

    Mojo's Airtones Clone Skimmer =)

I betch you got the medium pore diffusers. :( Those bubbles look way larger than Mojo's or DonW's skimmers! Peace, John H.

I hear you Mike! :) The finest bubbles always generate the nastiest skimmate. :)

DonW, I've often wondered about the cup myself and the fact is that it is the most traditional way of doing it. I doubt many manufacturer's are willing to get away from the look in favor of the new designs on the aerofoamers. I personally don't like the no cup look, but I'm sure it doesn't...

DonW, Did the diaphragm give on the airtech or did the whole pump just stop working? Peace, John H.

Don, That's an excellent idea... I had a hunch that what you were going to do with that PVC manifold. :) Should be a beast! Where will you be injecting water? Countercurrent or co-current? Peace, John H.

    DIY skimmer #2

Don, Glad the skimmer is coming together!!! Well, I've got a number for you. The airtech 40 delivers 78 SCFH of air with 2 6" airstones at a depth of 20". As a reference. That is about the optimal operating flow of two properly driven becketts. So, if you really want to utilize all that...

gabriela, Are you using an airstone? Those tiny bubbles aren't making their way into your display are they? Peace, John H.

    New Skimmer

Also, I think with the airtech 40, you could probably just get rid of the ORs and beckett injection, but if you find you still need it, then why not. Haha, although I doubt it. :) Peace, John H.

    New Skimmer

Redeyereef, Could you tell me your real name? I mean I've heard so much about you, but don't know your real name. Haha. Anyways, got some prelim. numbers back from Brent. The airtech 40 pump puts out a solid 78 SCFH through (2) 6" fine pore diffusers at about 20" of water over them, which...

    DIY skimmer #2

Don, Either he's really small, or that skimmer is really big!!! Keep us posted on what you decide and all. I should have some raw numbers and impressions next week. Brent of barraquatic.com will be running some numbers on the airtech 40 pump I sent him and he'll let me know about the sound...

    DIY skimmer #2

Think about it this way Don... those quiet PC fans usually run at about 25-30dB. Also, imagine walking down your neighborhood. You've got some sounds but they are in the background... so it's fairly quiet. A quiet conversation is around 55-60dB. So, I guess it's somewhere in between a...

DonW, I have done all the research you need. Trust me... I've got all the numbers and pump curves jammed into my skull on which pump is the best and the best one out there is..... the airtech pumps. Go to mystickoi.com and check them out. I'd suggest the airtech 40 or even the 80 for you...
