    skimmerless tank

    Nano with softies and some LPS? IMO you are OK with no skimmer. But if you can, you should just buy RO water from LFS. Tap is not going to kill your corals but they may not thrive.

    Odyssea 48' HQI 250watt

    The ballasts put out 170W and they will fire up name brand bulbs but the bulb will not burn properly. bottom line, if you got softies and LPS, this fixture is worth the low low price IMO. It actually looks very well built and neat, but the ballasts suck. I've been using it for 18 months...

    the ballasts and bulbs are crap. the fixture itself is nice. I'd say don't do it.

    Buying my first 8 foot tank...need advise.

    man, I have 4x250w + ton of actinics on my 8' tank and I beat myself over not going with 400w :(
