    Phosphates in Frozen Food

I don't have an ro/di unit yet, it's in the list to get but a few steps down. What i can do is get a gallon of ro/di from my lfs just for rinsing the food. I don't have many fish, a starry blenny, six line wraisse, watchman goby and a two spotted goby. I only feed the fish once a day and go...

    Phosphates in Frozen Food

Ill look them up online. It was kind of funny actually, i thought that the frozen food might test a little positive for PO4. The test has you wait for 3 minutes before reading the results, but as soon as i shook up the test tube it read off the charts. I rinsed the food with my tank water...

    Phosphates in Frozen Food

Thanks krish, I read mojo's article, it was one of the main reasons i tested the food. Is there a better brand of frozen food to use? Thanks, Lee

    Phosphates in Frozen Food

So I just picked up my first soft corals (thanks a ton olsenhouse they are awesome) and thought i would test the frozen food for phosphates. I usually have low levels in the tank, and some minor diatom that is stubbornly staying around. The frozen mysis shrimp tested off the charts for...

    How loud is your aquarium???

My return pump is noisier than I care for. I finally got the overflow box quiet by placing a little peice of plexiglass inside it so the water flows down the sides instead of waterfalling down like it normally does. Thinking about replacing the return pump with an eheim. I have one of their...

    Skimmer Recommendations

ive been trying to read up on the cone skimmers and see if it is worth the extra money. Still torn, seems like some of the reef octopus skimmers may not do as good but can at least keep up.

    Skimmer Recommendations

I want to finally buy a skimmer. Ive been running my tank without one for a little over 3 months now. Here are my specs: 65g main tank, 20g sump, light bioload but want to expand it, 1 goby, 1 wraisse, 1 blenny, assorted snails and hermits, 2 camel shrimp about 30lbs of live rock and roughly...

    Shrimp in tank?

I've got 2 camel shrimp, both are under an inch. Thought it might be one of them, but I've seen both of them tonight. So is old molting like a shed skin?

    Shrimp in tank?

I found a few of these floating around in my tank. in the tank they look clearish, but after taking it out is had some color. I attached a pic. Not sure what it is, or if they are normal, I do know that I personally have not added anything like this. The closest thing I have to something...

Poll: How do you dispose of your sick fish??

I haven't had time to go through a euthanizing process. It seems my crabs have a sixth sense to something struggling, and the fish end up as crab bait. This usually happens overnight, or while I am at work. I think I'll try the clove oil when the issue comes up again.

    500ppm Calcium too High?

Thanks for the poll reference, it seems that I'm not too far off the norm, but after reading the in-depth chemistry talk, I really need to test my alk, at least better than a dip test. The good thing is I'm being relatively proactive in getting the tank ready for corals, something I didn't do...

    Monthly Get togethers!

@Paul - Nice doors are really tough. I'm all about the DIY, but if you want a finished product that looks nice, I would have the doors done by a pro. I think DonW has some prices for just that. If you are really determined to diy, then you would have to bring the materials here. The shaper and...

    500ppm Calcium too High?

When I was first starting out with my tank about 3 months ago I had a guy at a lfs tell me to add a product (Microbe -Lift Coralline Algae Accelerator) to my tank to help with coralline algae growth. He said to just add the recommended amount every day for a few weeks. I did this for about...

    Purify Ocean Water?

I couldn't find too much on people doing this, so I figured it would be a bit of a process. I didn't really think about all of what mojo said, I figured I would only have to worry about pollutants. Maybe I will just get a few more 5 gallon containers and drive to the Seattle Aquarium to get...

    BOB Moore 2011 News.

Awesome! I'm pretty excited about the event, it will be my first. It will be nice to meet some fellow hobbyists and get some good guidance for coral keeping. Thanks again.
