    SPS polyp extension

Thanks for the replies. I'll try changing the flow a little first and see if that helps.

    SPS polyp extension

Once I get home this evening I'll try to identify the two colonies with Corals of the World. Maybe the sp. will help.

    SPS polyp extension

I am a little concerned with how much my few sps colonies' polyps are extending. I know that with different species, there will be various amounts of polyp extension. I have small colony 2-3in wide that I got at the lfs with almost no color...it has since started to become bright teal which...

    Who has blue zoanthids?

I have some as well. Started really deep blue but being under a single de 250w 20k mh over my 20gal they have seemed to turn a more bright teal/blue color. Still beautful nonetheless but would have like to see them stay a little deeper blue.

    Yasha Haze/pistol shrimp compatibility

I am getting a Yasha Haze goby and I would like to get him a suitable pistol shrimp to hopefully pair with. I know that Randall's pistol shrimps are the most suitable for them but does anyone have any info that would help let me know it they would pair with a Bullseye Pistol shrimp? Thanks

    what is this?

Another natural predator is a Velvet Nudibranch. I hear they wipe out the population very quickly but after that...slowly die because of a lack of food source. Natural, yet not the most humane. I hear good things about the flatworm exit though.

    5G nano questions

I agree with waiting at least a week for for the system to settle back down again. When looking for a fish I would recommend any of these: neon goby, clown goby, or a small shrimp goby such as a highfin goby or a similar species. The neon goby would be my choice because they are farely hardy...

Yup :) those are the ones

    Nano pump?

Generally you do not need airstones into a nano or any sw tank. There should be ample gas exchange at the surface without the need of the bubblestone. Feather dusters for sure do not need any extra oxygen than what your system is providing. These creatures are known for their resiliance and...

    Dripping corals good?

I learn something new everyday. :) Cool pictures, reproduction would have been my last thought.

    Nano pump?

After reading your other post, you shouldn't really worry about feedin the small feather dusters. They will sustain themselves and propogate very quickly in your tank without the addition of any phyto. If you feel its necassary I would maybe add phyto once a week...if that. If you have nothing...

    Nano pump?

First off you might want to try switching to a live phyto, such as Bioplankton, or DT's. I used kents phytoplankton and IMO it really doesn't help a whole lot. With bioplankton I notice a difference in polyp extension even from my sps, with kents all I think it did was add nitrates to the...

    Evaporated Water

I drip kalkwasser in my tank but has a little bit higher calcium needs than yours. It also can serve a purpose of helping stabilize pH. With that said if you don't have your dose right, you can overshoot your pH as well. I like the stability it keeps in my 20gal with a 10gal ref. Oh, and all...

Mt. St. Helens is getting busy

Although there is a probability that an eruption could cause ash to fall in puget sound...it is kind of unlikely. The wind direction that would be needed to carry it to the puget sound is not very likely. Not sure what I would do though...not really something I ever really thought I'd need to...

    Oceanic Salt...

Thanks mojo, I usually have to add around 4-5ml of the second part of c-balance (basically b-ionic) to get it back up with my small water changes. My tank dkh is right at 10 and is staying pretty stable.

    Oceanic Salt...

I use oceanic salt as well and I really like it. Levels seem to be pretty much what was posted earlier. Sometimes alkalinity is a little lower but never below 7 or so. Not sure if my tank would notice a difference if I changed salts though. IMO most salts are pretty equal after 24hrs of airation.

    Reef keeping as a JOB

I work part-time doing maintenance with Indoor Reef. I enjoy seeing the systems but cleaning my own tank is not as bad. It seems that if you get paid for it, it becomes less fun. Nobody pays me to clean my own tank so I don't mind.

    150w HQI over a 10g

You might want to use the screen acclimation method. When I upgraded my 20gal from 130watts pc to a 250watt de hqi mh i used 3 layers of screen and slowly took all of them off over the course of a week and a half or so. It worked good for me but I did still notice a bit of fading in my coral for...

    Coral Disease from Halimeda

I had some halimeda touching corals for quite some time with no ill effects but it will make me think twice about puting the macro into another tank. Thanks for the article. Mine would start to grow out the rock as well Reedman but I didn't like it so I would just pull it out. Over about 5...
