    Earthquake, how to prepare?

I just upgraded my 19G to 29G using the same metal stand. It just suddenly hit me that if there's an earthquake, my tank very likely will fall over, especially using a metal stand means there is not much weight close to the ground and the center of gravity is rather high. Any idea what can...

    New aquascape/mantis pics [large pics]

Yes, I have read about Mantis and understand it needs its own tank :) Seems like what I read about those Mantis sites the only thing they don't mention is how to obtain one :P I am just curious as to where to get one. Not going to do it right away, just want to find out availability and price...

It is so pretty. How do one go about getting ahold of a mantis shrimp?

Coral banded shrimp. Yay or Nay?

I have a golden coral banded. it is very shy (i really wish it'll come out more like the skunk cleaner, which is the boss). it does not even come out at feeding time while the cleaner shrimp eats like a pig. I am thinking about removing the cleaner and maybe the coral banded would come out...

    Pairing up ocellaris

My original one is not small, about 2" long I think. It certainly is no smaller than the females in the advertised "mated pair" in Blue Sierra. It is the most aggressive fish I have in my tank. The new guy is pretty small on the other hand. Maybe that's why he's being tolerated :)

    Pairing up ocellaris

I got a small partner for my existing lone ocellaris (therefore presumably female). There are absolutely no aggression after the new fish is added to my surprise, I was expecting the new guy to be beat up for a couple days by the dominant female. Is peaceful co-existant from the very beginning...

    Good place for plumbing supply

Oooo, why Lakewood :( Thanks for your offer Tom. I think I'll be alright as long as I find the parts. I mean all I want to do is connect 2 overflow bulkheads to the sump with ballvalve, Connect return pump to return line that I already have barb fittings for, and connect skimmer and skiimer...

questions about T5 lights and refugium lighting

I don't know if it is true or not. I read somewhere that MH has cheaper maintainance than VHO. Mostly because VHO's spectrum changes within 6 months and MH hold their spectrum longer, so replacement VHO's are going to more expansive. Comments about that? Joyce

    Good place for plumbing supply

Unfortunately I do not know what the names are for the parts that I want. I am basically trying to hook up my sump. Something to connect bulkhead to a hose to the sump and back. Also connect the skimmer pump to it hopefully with a valve to control flow (darn berlin) I'll check out those sites...

    Good place for plumbing supply

Where's a good place around Seattle for plumbing supply? I tried Home Depot and it is horrible. I can't even find something to thread onto my 1.5" bulkhead. Thanks.

    Anti-siphon hole on return line

Is it ok to have the hole above water? My corner overflow has a water level half as much as the display tank, so if I drill a hole in the return line (the entire return line is in the overflow box) it is going to be expose to air and squirting water. Or should I raise the water level in the...

    Sump/Refugium

Thanks for all the help. John Thanks for explaining to me what those baffles are for , I am mostly copying other's, and yes I'd have used 2 baffles if not to contain the sand in the refugium. Joyce

    Sump/Refugium

Wow, thanks guys. I did not even think about the fluctuation and such, thanks for pointing that out. I did not know the water levels in the sump compartments can differ so much. Is the very last baffle even necessary? Sounds like it might be creating bubbles instead of traping bubbles like it...

    Sump/Refugium

Thanks a lot. Here's what I am thinking: Is it a concern that the skimmed water enters the fuge from the top, but it also leave on the top? Not sure if that's bad for circulation or not.

    Sump/Refugium

I am trying to partition a sump and have a question. I am hoping to setup a compartment as refugium, can critters in refugium (pods, mysis etc) survive the trip through main pump or through the skimmer? I am trying to decide whether to have the skimmer before or after the fuge. Thanks a lot.

    adding cleaners - ?how many?

I was a little surprised at my Sally Light Foot's behavior, and decided I don't want the chance of the crab injuring my fishes and might lead to infection. I think my favorite cleaners is my cleaner shrimp and my brittle star. Snails just don't have much personality like my shrimp :) The star...

    adding cleaners - ?how many?

A word about Sally Light Foot, I got one and it was pretty aggressive towards my fish. Any fish that swim close get pounced on, so I took it back to the LFS the very next day. Seems like the fish store was not surprised when I said the crab was aggressive.

    What is the Best Clownfish???

Speaking about clown color, do they change color when they mature into different sex? Like does male to female changes color or supressed to male changes color? Do behaviors change too? I got a single false clown (it was in a group at LFS and was not the most aggressive one, looks like the...

    picklin lime vs kalk

I noticed when I mixed some picking line I'll get a film on the water surface. Is it the same whether using pickling lime or kalk? Is it harmful to have some of those flakes (the film breaks up into flake-like stuffs) in the tank? Thanks.

    PinPoint pH Monitor

Thanks. I went to American Marine's site and read the manual, sounds like the probe should be kept wet all the time and mine is definitely not. I guess I might as well pitch the whole thing, just replacing the probe is $45 :( Maybe I'll email them and see if they can tell if just the probe is...
