April Meeting, what does the Club want to do?

Very Cool, Bob would appreciate gesture, I'm sure. If I can make it, I'll bring a few different frags of Bob's from a decade or so ago.

    Lighting for SPS

Thanks Kevin, Now that sounds like a good sampling! So, would you say they lasted 9 months, can't tell from your message (I have been running my halides only about 6 hrs/day, rest with vho)? Also, do you notice a pink shade to them that others have on that other reef forum? I understand that...

    Lighting for SPS

Thanks Sue, Sue, have you tried (or want to) the 12k version? What did you notice when you switched to the reeflux 10k? How did the coraline algae react, and did you get any bleaching events? If I switch from the Radiums, I do have 4 vho bulbs for actinic if need be. I just fear coral...

    Lighting for SPS

Hi Kevin, I have been running Radiums in PFO HQI's for awhile. I had heard that the Reeflux 10k may have problems running with HQI And that they lose their spectrum very quickly with any ballast. Example would be great blue to start and then losing that "blue shine" after 3-4 weeks. What...

    Tunze Turbelle stream 6060

I would not have them pointing directly at a coral. I put mine in the front upper corners of the tank pointly slightly at the front glass. That way, the current will run down the front of the glass and collide in the middle. They will tear flesh off corals if direct and too close.

    Breaking in a new skimmer

Thanks Zeph, probably will wait to see how the recirc. skimmer responds. Might be just the trick to make the Iwaki 70 plenty of pump. In the mean while, I'll be emailing you about a calcium reactor very soon.

Show me your full tank shots

Steve, my tank is a 180 (160 inside gal) and the sump water is about 70 gal for 240 gal total. This tank has been up for about 8 years now. I'm actually redoing the landscaping today to accomodate more different sps. I have about 4 coral heads that grow out of the water level and the tops...

    anyone use Kent salt?

Well, if Oceanic is now making the Kent salt, the mag. should be plenty high.

    Breaking in a new skimmer

Zeph, I have been "eyeing" the 4200 for awhile now. I see that Charlie is running a Iwaki 100. Will this skimmer run with a Iwaki 70 pressure pump? That's what I have running my downdraft at current. Also are you toying with making any recirc. skimmers out of these? Or perhaps trying...

    anyone use Kent salt?

I've used Kent salt for about 5-7 years before switching to Oceanic (following the craze). I never had any problems with Kent salt, and will be going back to Kent. I heard in the past, the Kent uses Instant Ocean and than "inhances" it with slightly higher calcium, alkalinity, and one of...

    Skimming conversation

Zeph, thanks "The only reason left to upgrade is if you wanted a bigger chamber, longer contact time, or just liked the features on newer skimmers." That's what I figured. The bigger chamber might help, and the newer designs are easier to clean. Probably need a newer calcium reactor before...

    Skimming conversation

I have one of the first ETS downdraft skimmers (model 1000 now I believe) on the West Coast that I purchased in about 1995 (if I remember). It was kick *utt when I first got it; then it became "dated" as the years went by. I removed the jet nozzle and replaced it with a beckett and now it...
