    Sump size for 75 gal

9 gallons sits above the tank's return intake? Amount of water above matters alot. I have a poorly designed system and the intake is so high in the sump that it is like it has half the water it really holds. Would change that if I manufactured it.

    Sump size for 75 gal

with a drain as long as they all fit together it will be fine- gravity does the work. I have all flexible tubing on my drains, works fine - BUT GET BLACK TUBES OTHERWISE YOU WILL GET ALGAE BUILDUP IF THE LIGHT HITS YOUR DRAINS (oops caps lock). Made that mistake in a MARS system build and I had...

    Sump size for 75 gal

by the way do you have a harbor freight nearby? They always have some deal on pumps going on. I don't know if the others here would agree with me or not, but I like a weak pump, to keep water in the refugium moving slowly. (Still needs like 300 gph after the lift though). Then get the rest of...

    Sump size for 75 gal

the overflow drain? Pretty much near the top, I got them like 1 1/2 inch from the top. THe hole os on the bottom of the tank? Is there an overflow around the drain?

    Sump size for 75 gal

If I understand all Im readin, if the power goes out, or the return pump stops the tank will only drain so far if I plumb it correct? - yep, why it is better to have the drains or the overflows at the top of the tank rather than at the bottom. But the sump must hold the normal volume plus the...

    Algae affected by light

Wow that is a refuge! I think that is the long term way to get your tank clean. Reduce unnecessary nutrients, (rinse your frozen foods), remove what you can, let macro algae dominate and you will be good. Might as well get TDS down to 0, it could only help - but it wouldn't be my first priority...

    Algae affected by light

I wouldn't get overly concerned with TDS, you are close enough, every time you feed you put in far more algae growing nutrients than in an entire tank full of 9 TDS water. Dropping it another 9 points won't clear up the algae. You have to solve the nutrient problem, and get your chaeto to...

How To Feed Macro Alage to Marine Fishes

Very true, every time I dive I see lots of blue and yellow tangs along with plenty of surgeonfish. The only time they aren't eating is when they are trying to get away from you so they can enjoy their meal in piece. Even then they usually don't move. From diving I think most fish eat more than...

    Algae affected by light

i would put them on and keep fighting the source of the algae which is probably food nutrients or rock leaching. Keep pruning the chaeto and stirring up and siphoning detritus in the sand bed. What kind of algae do you have? It could be telling as to the problem.

scooter and canary blenny with mandarin dragonette

+1. If I were going to get one I wouldn't add them at the same time. The LFS near me sells only dragonets that are trained on mysis and bloodworms, but even when I got mine I was happy to have a very large refugium to keep them hunting. The male, (picked up a pair of spotted mandarins), eats...

    250gl cube build!!

that is nice. i love the rock wall and the arches. With as much room as you left in the middle, (and the size of the tank), can we expect all sorts of cool fish?

    Sump size for 75 gal

one quick tip (a lot of good info you got there), make sure that the sump can hold any excess water that may drain down if the pump stops working.
