And, a pic of the new 120. I'm still figuring out how to compensate for the starboard, so pics not the best.

I had just moved the pearl bubble, that's why it's kinda closed up.

    Space

There wasn't enough space to do maintainance in the tank!

Pics of the 260G - I just sold it 2weeks ago because I wanted something with less maintainance time. I had started up a 120G and moved what I wanted to keep into that, mainly just frags of some of the best corals and one large tabletop. The 260 was a walkaround tank. It was perfect timing to sell

    ArchEast

The big mound of rock at the walkaround end has an arch - it's kind of hard to see in a full tank shot.

The pearl bubble coral at the bottom was kinda closed because I had just moved it when I took the pic.

    On Figuring out 'Guy' stuff

Thanks, Mike, Sno & Wright! You guys are the best - fun & encouraging at the same time. I'll keep trying and learning. Hi, Nikki - simultaneous post! Yep, someday we, too, will be able to make rocket engines outta loose change, potatoes and stuff you find in a drawer. Ditto on falling of...

    On Figuring out 'Guy' stuff

 I didn't get 'guy' training in my formative years, so keeping a reef tank has been an uphill struggle. By Guy training, I mean all the plumbing, motors, electrical, and other essential knowledge. I've wished a million times some forum would have a "Clueless DIY" section for people...

1st time building my own lights...

Cool! Thanks, Nikki!!! Then that will work for me. You have the waterproof endcaps, right?

1st time building my own lights...

Thanks, Brad, Wright, Nick & Nikki!! Much appreciate the advice!! Me, too - love the dawn/dusk effect! And some of the zoanthids change color under VHO actinics, which I'd miss. Nick, I had the tank made thru an LFS called Aquarium Center, here in Sherman Oaks (So.Ca.). I was worried...

    Diatoms in an established tank??

Hi Blazer, Notice it goes away at night when the lights are off, then builds back up during the lights on cycle? My understanding about cyano is that it shows up when something else (bacteria or algae, etc.) dies. It'll go away, once the nutrients that fuel it are gone - and harvesting it...

    Diatoms in an established tank??

Mike, I get a few tiny brown specks on my glass that I think are diatoms, but it's not cyano. What's the deal with diatoms? Are they all bad? Blazer, hope you don't mind my asking in your thread. It seems like a perfect place to ask, and it's been bothering me for awhile. The brown specs...

1st time building my own lights...

This is the first time I've put together diy lights for a new 120, so I'd like to check my plan out with someone with more experience at this. The tank is 4'x2'x2' but it usable space looks to me like less - so a 48" VHO bulb isn't gonna fit, I figure. I've got 2 400W MH fixtures and Sunlight...

    Ca reactors vs. kalk reactors

Thanks, Mikey!! If I go to Marine Depot and look under dosing meters will I get to the right place? Can you show me a pic of your holding drum? Is any brand dosing meter fine?

    Ca reactors vs. kalk reactors

Thanks, ml, fish, bc & Mikey Appreciate the good info, all. Mikey, lol, not quite in your world, but feel like I'm getting a taste of it. Is a kalk reactor much better /easier /more automatic than dripping kalk? I don't know much about kalk reactors, since I've never had one - but...

    Ca reactors vs. kalk reactors

My darn Ca reactor just isn't keeping up with my 260g tank's needs. I'm augmenting with homemade 2-part additive, around 150ml (each) per day. Altogether, it's costing around $40/mo to keep my Ca levels up in the 440 range. I'm wondering whether a kalk reactor wouldn't be a better solution to...
