Can anyone refer a structural engineer?

You guys are great! I did know about most of this, hence the reason I changed walls originally and asked for a structural engineer. I ended up going back to my original plans which was the worst possible place in my house to place a large tank. The wall I chose separates the living room from...

Can anyone refer a structural engineer?

Ok, everything is going again (YEAH!). I am fianlly able to spend less time signing affidavits and more time finding stress relief in my hobby! I changed walls, bypassed the structual engineer and hired a contractor to build a load bearing closet downstairs. The project is now the one I...

    Got insurance?

Has any of you ever successfully been able to add your larger tanks to your homeowners insurance policy? I haven't called my agent yet and don't even know how to approach the subject. I am in the middle of my latest and biggest project, a custom through wall, and it's getting quite large (the...

    I need MH advice!!!!

This is good info guys!!! The wheels are finally starting to turn now. Can you recommend a place to start price comparing? (pm if need be???) Just don't send me to Ebay.....over Labor day weekend I became a victim of identity theft and an account was drained. I got my money back because of...

anyone a victim of identity theft?????

Oh, Jnarowe, Three times? I am sooooo sorry. This has been frustating but I just can't imagine doing it over and over again. I think mine is starting to clear up after 36 affidavits being faxed to clear my name. Can't wait to see my phone bill next month since none were 800 numbers. Oh...

    125g thru-wall dream project

Here is the fan and thermostat my contractor bought for the wall. It's pretty cool, I think it is typically used for an attic. Also, hard to see from the pic (since it's the same color as the mud), but he also installed this U-shaped plastic around all of the interior openings of sheet rock that...

    I need MH advice!!!!

So, XM 10K MH bulbs... and VHO is better than PC? What about all of the talk regarding T5 (never even seen T5 before, only read about it)? Correct me if I'm wrong, but I can use 20K MH and not worry about the pc, vho or t5 (MarineTeng)????? Should I do pendants or a pre-made fixture? I was...

    I need MH advice!!!!

Is this lighting requirements for sps or softies? The only real light loving things I have at the moment are a couple of BTA's. Both were puchased silver dollar sized, never had one split yet but the largest is bigger than a football. I do plan on having an "Anemone Island" in the new tank. I'm...

    I need MH advice!!!!

Just wanted to throw a question out. I'm still debating over the new lighting for my 125g thru-wall project. It's going to be a softie tank like my past tanks but I want to upgrade to MH for color and also, so that I can mount the lights higher above the tank. In the past I've been a pc...

    125g thru-wall dream project

Matt, Yes, 2 swinging doors on the sides and 2 each swinging doors on the top and bottom (the top will be divided in 2 as well as the bottom. The braces on the bottom will be partially in the way, but shouldn't affect my storage). All hinges will be hidden on the interior. We will be doing a...

    125g thru-wall dream project

Today the interior wall framing was completed (except for the framing for the lights). Next the air duct was run to the outside for the fan. The fan and thermostat will be attached to the top of the duct and secured to the wall. The vent for the air intake will be on the wall on the other side...

    125g thru-wall dream project

Matt, Wow! I've seen your post before (I just needed my memory jogged) and your project was one of many that inspired me (love the pic of your daughter.....I don't think my 4 would fit in the space provided for my tank......mine range from 4 to 12). I viewed your post waaaaaay before the...

    125g thru-wall dream project

Here are the latest pictures. There really hasn't been much progress upstairs. The interior wall has been partially framed and the styrofoam has been placed on the plywood. Also the vent to the outside was put in. I added that pic too, whoo hoo, it's a good one

    125g thru-wall dream project

Ok, I need some advice now....... For underneath my tank, should I use 1/4" or 1/2" foam insulation? My tank is 99.9% level as of right now but because the 1" plywood is not perfect I have a couple of credit card gaps here and there. The tank is glass and all the weight is distributed around...

    125g thru-wall dream project
