Hey Krish - tell us about the rock on the back wall of your tank

Krish, When I setup the 360g last April I was not sure if my surge was going to work as I hoped. So I drilled the tank in advance for a future 2" closed Loop. I have a motorized ball valve. And only the bulkhead in the front right corner would be an issue. But in the past year the surge has...

    How many fish

Regal, Shorter lifespan... These fish are still swimming... The yellow tang has been in the tank for over 11 years... Dave B

    How many fish

Cheeks, When the lights turn on later this evening I will look under the Hippos fins and see if they are boys are girls. From my experience, one hippo is the dominant or largest fish. About 3 years ago I lost my previous largest Hippo. In less than 3 weeks one of the other hippos had almost...

    How many fish

A small tang in a 55g tank will be fine. The Yellow tang in my dad's 40g tank has been there since March of 94. He is still about 2" in size. His color is great, he is fat and healthy and he is small. In all my years in the hobby I have never seen a tang that has physically outgrown a tank...

Hey Krish - tell us about the rock on the back wall of your tank

I mounted flat slab rock to the back wall of my 360 last April, and then yanked it and remounted when I went to a 400 in May, and remounted it on the back wall. I cured the rock in one of my sumps for about 6 weeks before mounting in the tank. During the first installation I used 3M 5200...

AC2 made my neighbor's house a hunted house????

The X10 signals that the AC2 sends out are only sent on the electrical wire. The irony is that for most of us x10 signals can't even make it all around our properties... Let alone the neighbors. However your house electrical is AC (alternating current) so any signals you add to it go in an out...

400g Finally Getting Back on It's Feet

Thanks for the Kudos guys... It's actually not that much rock - About 700lbs - But it's almost all Tonga Flat slab rock - It's mounted to the back of the tank. All the Rock on the left side of the tank is only 2 shelves - It's acutally entirely hollow. I built steps out of Fiberglass safety...

AC2 made my neighbor's house a hunted house????

I am a Smarthome dealer - And they are carrying a bunch of TOYS lately. And do not try the INSTEON system - Way too Beta. However, They do have the Filterlinc - Which is a much cheaper way to use electronic ballasts than the Aqualink DC-4 - Which is a crap item IMO. If you look at a...

    Back-up generators for the winter

I don't think you will get 24 hours out of anything more than an air pump. For the batteries you would need, you would be better off buying a gas generator - $500 bux new at Costco - And will run for 24 hours on about each 5g of gas and run your tank, fridge, and Tivo. Dave B

400g Finally Getting Back on It's Feet

Hey Folks, Its been a difficult year for me and the hobby. After some major setbacks (1700+ SPS lost) my tank is finally starting to recover. Sorry for the links to my site - But it was the easiest way to share the numerous photos. For those that have kept up with my situation - This...

    Online Order Gone Bad?!

Making an assumption - With a deep water acro - The coral is the same life form - So logically it should not make a difference. The mechanics of the structure and tissue are the same - The ability to retain water should not be any different. The coral in the photos - is NOT - a deep water...

    Online Order Gone Bad?!

Acros can spend hours out of the water under the tropcial sun during low tide. Your coral in a moist bag should be fine. Years ago acros were shipped in the US wrapped only in damp newspaper - No water - in a bag. Since the box was moist and not hot or dry - I think you should have a good...

    Skimmer not working?

The RIO actually has more pressure than the Maxi. RIO's are extremely inexpensive pumps - But they have a model/size for every application. Can you find out what the recommended flow for the skimmer is (gph) and then pick the appropriate pump. Dave B

Lets Talk about the Fish I like

From what you listed (this time :) ) 3.) Yellow Tang -- Consider adding Purples, blacks or more yellows - Make sure you keep odd numbers - Adding them as a group is a good idea, if you can't then add them in pairs or trios. 4) Royal Gramma - You don't need more than 1 - But if you get a...

Lets Talk about the Fish I like

Thoughts #5 - Chalk Bass - Cool fish - But will consume anything that fits in its mouth - This could be an issue if you are planning/hoping for small shrimps in your tank #6 & #7 -- These are not friendly fish - And will devour anything that fits in their mouth - Shrimp or even small...

    Swollen fingers

From handling the SPS corals I ended up with numb fingers on both hands - Thumb through middle. My neurologist said to not touch the corals and give the nerves time to heal.... So I wear surgical gloves for ALL tank maintenance. It's been almost 2 years -- And still no feeling in the fingers...

    Skimmer not working?

Blazer, It depends on how a skimmer is adjusted as to what they pull out. A skimmer with a water level "too" high and too much air, can fill a collection cup in minutes with just salt water. If your skimmer is "dialed in" you should get dark skimmate, which should have the consistency of...

    How many fish?

How Many Fish.... o2many --- LOL I don't think you are going to have an issue -- If it's a 20g tank - I would recommend getting a pair of Bangai - They do great in pairs, and are eager to breed in captivity. Good Luck Dave B
