    sulphur denitrators

Hey Don, What or where is Au.? And to those that keep clams- I think I read somewhere that clams will consume nitrates. I'm wondering if they will uptake it fast enough to outcompete algae?

That is a good looking tank :)

    sulphur denitrators

Oh, just meant GFO's are not an option for me as I had a bad experience with them once. I know tons of people use it safely but I'd rather not risk it. I was just viewing GFO's as a different way of attacking algae growth. But I wonder if denitrators will help even if nitrates are low. I know I...

    sulphur denitrators

Does anyone have experience with one of these units and how do you like them? Nuisance algae is the least favorite part of keeping a tank for me and I'm wondering if a sulphur denitrator can give me the upper hand. I do the usual water changes and limit the feeding but want something more. I...

    removing sand from display tank

Not debating the merits of DSBs but its pretty amazing how much detritus comes out of it when you remove the sand. I helped a friend take down his 55g and the buckets of sand from the tank looked like mud water. His acros though were super colored with great growth so it must have been ok for...

Anyone have good experience with coco worm?

I got 6 of them from a wholeseller once. Most of them lost their crowns when I lost power after a winter storm but slowly regained them over a few months, but not as nice as the original. They looked pretty when in bloom but they kept shooting back into their tubes. They seemed pretty hardy in...

    nice anemones at ReefMystique

I stopped by RM after work and saw some nice colored healthy anemones that just came in. There was a couple purple tipped H. Crispas with a darker purple body, not the usual white or brown, pretty nice so I picked up one myself. And also some different colored H. Magnifica. I'm no expert on...

Its probably not the nipple position but this is an interesting read. http://www.advancedaquarist.com/2002/3/review

    Bad MH bulb??

Is it single ended? If so have you tried twisting the bulb so the nipple is pointing up or was it down ( I forget the correct orientation).

Anyone seen these yellow xenia? pics

These are not my pics. I saw the following pics of these xenia and I was wondering if anyone has ever seen yellow redsea xenia in person. If so how yellow were they.

    Pics of new stuff

Is that a Lokani frag in the right side of the pic 5? That's a pretty good price for it on their website. One of the nicest acros imo.

is 10hr photo period to long??

Ten hours does not seem too bad imo. Of course, algae needs light to grow but I've always treated nuisance algae as a nutrient problem. Not sure cutting back on your photoperiod will make a significant enough of an impact. I recently cleaned out my sump and checked some liverock with bubble...

    Yet another Kalk thread

You could use one or both. Each has + & - Kalk will raise ph while calcium reactor will lower it. Using both balances out that ph swing. Kalk alone can keep up your alk/calcium but if you use it with your topoff, you're limited by the amount of water you're adding daily. Ca reactor is good...

Does this anemome have a remote chance?

It may look bad but there is a good chance it will pull through. I've seen RBTA's with most its tentacles shredded from a powerhead make a full recovery. I'd pull it only if it looks like its dissolving or start to smell.

How best to frag an acan?

I think it will grow fastest if it has a flat rock to encrust over. Placing it on sand will stunt its grow I believe.

How best to frag an acan?

there is wheel diamond saw bit that works the best. The link shows what it looks like but I'm not sure it is the exact one you need. http://www.amazon.com/Dremel-545D-545-Diamond-Wheel/dp/B00004UDI9

How best to frag an acan?

The best thing to do to get a nice clean cut is to dremel a line on the underside where you want the break to happen. Once the score is deep enough, you could then use the screwdriver or some sharp plyers to finish the break. You could just use a screwdriver and hammer to frag the acan but you'd...
