    Check out my Chalice

Im not sure what this is, spawning or feeding? My gut says feeding because this happened when I purchased some new coral food from my lfs, "phyto feast live", and fed it to my tank for the first time. I have only seen this happen once, so it still has me confused. Anyways, it makes for a...

MH HQI Bulb Break in Period

So I changed my stock generic 15K 250W HQI bulbs with some 10K Ushio's about 3 weeks ago. My goal was to sacrifice some nice blue/white viewing pleasure to obtain extra coral growth. I was really disappointed with the color of the bulbs at first, very yellow. Today, one of the bulbs...

Calc Reactor HOT Co2 Solenoid - Normal ???

I bought a used Calcium Reactor from craigslist (k2r reactor - ph controller - co2 w/ solenoid, media -- all for $250). I just got it all plumbed up and was in the process of counting bubbles/drips etc. when I noticed that the co2 solenoid was getting really hot. I had it plugged in for about...

    Custom Sump

Any good local window/automobile glass shop could build a basic sump. I provided a 38g glass aquarium to a glass shop, and they cut&installed 2 (3 piece) bubble traps, creating a 12" fuge in the middle, and drilled a hole on one side for my 'outside of sump protein skimmer' for around $80...

    How to work acrylic???

I made a one-piece internal corner overflow from acrylic. After measuring and cutting, I clamped down the acrylic on my work-bench. Using a heat gun, starting warming up the sheet from the top and bottom along the edge that was to be bent. After about 20 minutes and a sore arm, the acrylic...

    micro bubbles ?? check valve?

Just wanted to share the answer to my post. My locline was the problem just as DNJAN had suggested (THANKS). Only one of my locline joints was above the water line and sucked just enough air to cause microbubbles in my display. Also, I took everyone's advice and removed the check valve, and...

    micro bubbles ?? check valve?

Hi, I'm getting some micro bubbles into my display tank. I have a sump w/ 2 bubble traps, so I know my return pump in not sucking up any bubbles. My first thought was that It was due to my check valve (this is a ball type check valve that you would buy from lowes or home depot). My thought is...

    Just Got Shocked!!

I'm a rookie reefer and a rookie electrician. I installed 2 gfi's last weekend and it was pretty easy after a little bit of internet searching. A multi-meter or a volt-test-light may come in handy to find out what wires are hot. Good Luck:) Rollins

Question on flow -- Dart closed loop VS. Tunze Streams

Hi, I have a question about flow. I have an acrylic Tru-View 120gallon 5ftx18”x2ft. I recently purchased a lightly used set of 2 Tunze stream 6100’s, and the 7094 multi-controller & light sensor (allows slow ramp-up, quick pulse, long slow pulses.. etc). I was also considering drilling &...

    Buffing Scratches out...

I agree w/ Bchbum189, on my heavily scratched 125 tru View, I started w/ 600g, 800, 1000,1500,2000 ALL WETSANDING -- and then buffed it out at about 1400rpm and standard car compound w/ a wool pad, and then polish w/ a foam pad. It worked great!
