    Best way to Frag Duncan

I bought a diamond cut wheel for my dremel at home depot for $15, and that worked beautifully to frag the duncan. Duncan is nice and open already this morning. (didn't look happy last night). Much better deals on the diamond cut wheels on ebay though. I wish I had thought of checking there...

    Best way to Frag Duncan

Hi. I have a duncan that I'd like to frag to trade a head with another reefer. What is the best method of fragging it? I fragged it several months ago, but lost 2 heads in the process because I used wire cutters from home depot that someone suggested would be just as good as bone cutters. I...

Why is my Yellow Coris Wrasse hanging at the top of the tank splashing like crazy?

Well, it looks like the new bulbs may have been affecting this Coris Wrasse. I could tell he hadn't splashed at all today because everything was perfectly clean, no dried salt marks, and he hasn't splashed at all since I've been home for the past several hours. He is swimming around the tank...

Why is my Yellow Coris Wrasse hanging at the top of the tank splashing like crazy?

LOL Lee. Maybe you're right. We'll see what happens tonight with the light raised up. I don't feed them or anything when he's splashing. Maybe he's just a spoiled brat fish that is trying to get me to feed him. I am suspicious of him mellowing out the second the MH light went off though...

Why is my Yellow Coris Wrasse hanging at the top of the tank splashing like crazy?

Hi Leebca. The tank is a 53gallon tank (31x19.5x19.5) with a 7 gallon sump. The pair of clowns are on the smaller size. 2" max each. Royal Gramma is about 2". Hawkfish is about 3". Firefish is about 2.5". Coris Wrasse is about 2.5". That's all that's in there, and the aquascaping is...

Why is my Yellow Coris Wrasse hanging at the top of the tank splashing like crazy?

Hey All. Is it normal behavior for a Yellow Coris Wrasse to hang out at the surface of the tank and splash like crazy? I've had this fish for about 6 weeks. Haven't added anything new. Fish looks great and is eating great. I have an open tank. About a week ago, I noticed all kinds of salt dried...

So..you don't believe you need to change your bulbs as often as some say?

Thanks Nick! I'll check out that thread. so, I maybe have another 7 months of life left on the T5's I just pulled out? The Super Actinics (UVL) T5's REALLY looked gray when they were pulled out of the fixture, compared to the new bulbs. Looked kind of like how a standard lightbulb for a...

So..you don't believe you need to change your bulbs as often as some say?

It's a 10k 150W Elos DE MH bulb. Thanks. Pam I'm about to replace it with either a 10k or 12k refulx bulb.

So..you don't believe you need to change your bulbs as often as some say?

Hi Scooterman. Yes, I have one 150w MH bulb, and 4 24W T5's in an Elos Planet Light fixture (individual reflectors). Tank is 31" long X 19.5" deep X 19.5" Tall. Are you saying I'm relying on the T5's for light needs because my MH is only 150w? Thanks, Pam

So..you don't believe you need to change your bulbs as often as some say?

Hey all. My T5 bulbs are 11 months old, and my MH bulb is 6 months old. I know some people say bulbs should be changed at 6 months, and some say 12 months, and some say longer. I figured there was no reason they had to be changed before 12 months. Well, I added my first SPS' two months...

    No PE on SPS corals

Thanks again Kevin. I'll take your advise. Are there any other branching SPS corals that would be easier than the Milliporas?

    No PE on SPS corals

Thanks Kevin. These are all Milliporas, which I thought was an easier beginner SPS. Wonder if I should stick with LPS. My Alkalinity is 8. My flow is 35X the display size. (53gallon tank with about 2000 GPH flow. I have 2 Tunze Nano 6025's, 1 Maxijet 1200, and Eheim 1260 for return pump)...

    No PE on SPS corals

I guess I have STN on a few of these Millipora's. I could see it spreading up from the base, and it was progressing daily. I fragged off the good part, and remounted it to the rock, and within a couple of days, I could see the tissue recession starting again. I fragged some more of the good...

    No PE on SPS corals

Thanks Packer. I think I'll take your advise, and change the Phosban this weekend when it will have been in the tank for 2 weeks. I've been seeing what looks like a diatom bloom on the sandbed for the last couple of months, and that looks to have lessened a lot since adding the phosban...

    No PE on SPS corals

Thanks Kevin. Ahhh....I didn't know that algae couldn't grow on live coral tissue. That's good to know. The area where I see green, is definitely alive and appears healthy. I think it's probably green on all of the new growth, and I see it only when the T5's only are lit. Definitely looks...

Idiot's Guide to Making & Dosing 2 Part

Just one question. When using the calculator, when I try entering say, Magnesium to start with, it gives me the balanced Alk in Meq/L. My test kit is a Elos DhK. I had a Meq/L kit that was just too hard to figure out what the result was with the gradiant color chart, so I switched to the DhK...
