Bloke's 180g - It was bound to happen...

Here's a shot showing the stand 90% complete. There's a few more things I need to do including lag bolts and a few 2x6 runners along the bottom to stabalize it. Believe it or not it's darn near perfectly level. I checked it at the front, the back, the right side, middle, and left, and I am...

Bloke's 180g - It was bound to happen...

Well, I did manage to get the bedroom completely framed in without issue. I do need to add a few nailers in the corners. But finally... the wall I'd been waiting for; the tank wall. It ended up being about 13 feet long and I will attempt to get the tank as close to center as possible...

Bloke's 180g - It was bound to happen...

Yeah - I already have a tank upstairs right above this new system so I will just drop those water lines down for this tank when I take that one down. Many people have commented on the size of the room thinking it might not be big enough, but the bigger I make the "fish" room, the smaller the...

Bloke's 180g - It was bound to happen...

Well, I took some final measurements and got to work. I wanted to start with the more complicated wall first. The interior wall seperating the bedroom from this new den was where I chose because it joins with a wall at a 45 degree angle, it will contain two doors, has multiple required nailers...

Bloke's 180g - It was bound to happen...

Well, the room behind will be about 5' by 15'. Of course, 24" of that will be taken up by fish tank. So, I will have a 3' walkway directly behind the tank, but a total of 5' on either side of the tank where on one side I plan to keep barrels of freshwater/saltwater and on the other the...

Bloke's 180g - It was bound to happen...

My other plans for the system are to run a 100g Rubbermaid tub and place it on the far wall perpendicular to the tank. I will combine both drain lines into a single larger line and within the tub hold a 15g long tank (24x12x12) for a fuge (My current refugium section of my sump ironically has...

Bloke's 180g - It was bound to happen...

Well, who am I kidding? It was bound to happen so why resist? Over the last few months the wife and I have talked about what would be my summer project this year since she knows that I HAVE to have something to occupy my time otherwise insanity sets in. I told her that my plan was to teach a...

    FRaNKeN'ReaCToR - rated 200g

Well, I didn't get much done regarding getting the reactor up and running, but I did get the 10lb bottle connected to the 90g and I made a few plumbing adjustments to this one. I plan to take the 5lb bottle I was using on the 90g upstairs on the 36g tank. I did not like the way the water...

    FRaNKeN'ReaCToR - rated 200g

So, with everything glued and dry, now we can start looking at getting things plumbed. Here, the pumped at attached to the lower union allowing a straight input into the reaction chamber. The beginnings of the loop using basic schedule 40 1/2" PVC. I decided to go with a second union on the...

    FRaNKeN'ReaCToR - rated 200g

Alright, now with the top in place and drying, attention can be focused on getting the gasket to fit neatly. Using the drill press and the holes in the lid as guides, holes were drilled through the gasket to ensure proper seating. Then came the violently messy part of routing out the center...

    FRaNKeN'ReaCToR - rated 200g

With the absence of an O-ring, there has to be a gasket to seal the lid. For $.99, Hobby Lobby sells sheets of this spongey material. Tracing the lid gives a nice custom fit! Now for attaching the lid to the top of the reactor. I know most people go for dark/smoke colored discs for the top...

    FRaNKeN'ReaCToR - rated 200g

Well, I needed a new reactor for the 36g corner tank. I fiddled around with a few others and thought I would just go without one since I know, here in the near future, this tank will be coming down. (I know - I'm never satisfied, but LFS love the money, so whatever...). Anyway, I did NOT want...

Thanks! The corals in the tank are starting to really react to the stability provided by the reactor. I hope that by mid-summer I can have the matureity that I am looking for! :D

Sightly odd - but an updated shot showing each sectin of the tank. :)

    Bloke's 36g Build Thread

I must admit... I was a little skeptical at first, but it's probably the best $50 I've ever spent. I went through and entire 20oz of CO2 a little faster than I thought, but I had orignally set the bubble count at 10bpm. Currently, I run it at about 6 bpm. But with a 20oz bottle, I appreciate...

Since I was setting up a reactor on my other tank I figured I would see about one for this system. I did not want to spend the same money so I looked for something cheaper and was happy with what I found. I end up and bought a ViaAqua ACRO-Cal reactor. The thing was only $35 and I still had...

    Bloke's 36g Build Thread

I originally thought about a 150w HQI 14k with 2x36w PC actinics for this tank, but thought that it would generate more heat than asingle 250w SE 15k with no actinic supplementation. The higher kelvin bulb would give me a little more blue so there would be no need for the PC actinics. To combat...

So this was Day 1. That would have been April 20, 2007. I am quickly approaching the first anniversary of this tank. :D

50lbs of rock for this thing along with Reef Crystals salt. I used a new 15g tank for the sump and drilled it for an auto top-off coming directly from the RODI unit in the basement. I am not sure what I think of the aquascaping. It's not that easy trying to scape a corner tank. Here's the...

Not much beats Krylon Fusion - that stuff rocks! Here the tank is empty sitting in the living room. You can see the stand color matches the other wood fairly well. Thankfully! It's easier to get her to agree if things still look pretty! :D
