    Green hair algae battle

Here's a link to what I was ralking about in regards to chaeto tumbling: http://reefbuilders.com/2015/06/04/sea-aquarium-gigantic-ball-spinning-chaetomorpha-algae/ Watch the video ...

    Green hair algae battle

I get it...I've been dealing with algae & phosphate issues too. Recently, I've been able to get a handle on my phosphate...I purchased an ARID E18 reactor. I started a thread here about it, but I need to update it. Think cannister filter with LED grow lights in the middle. I'd tried running a...

    Green hair algae battle

You have chaetomorpha in your sump behind the scrubber? Chaeto is the best macro algae for nutrient export because it grows faster than anything else. What are you expecting to get from your ATS that the chaeto isnt doing? Not being rude or argumentative, just trying to find the rationale...

    Green hair algae battle

Ahh...okay. I'm familiar with the concept of Algae Turf Scrubbers, but I wasnt aware that there was an upflow version. What is the advantage of an upflow version vs a normal downflow/downhill version?

What is the purpose of the air stone in the bottom of the scrubber?

    So upset with tunze

I've still got one Tunze left, (an older 6105), but I never had an issue with them spinning backwards, and I had 4 of them at one point. I recently purchased a pair of Vortech's for one reason....maintenance. It's a PITA to take the Stream out every so often for cleaning, with a Vortech, its...

    ARID E18 reactor (Phosphate Control!!!)

I've bedn dosing the NO3 supplements for a few days now. I have about 135/140 gallons total in the system right now. Started dosing 2mls of the included NO3 supplement. No change in NO3 readings, still undetectable via salifert. Next day dosed 4mls. No change in NO3 readings, still...

    ARID E18 reactor (Phosphate Control!!!)

I bought a Hanna HI96713 photometer. I'd gotten a couple of erratic results from the LFS I'd been taking water samples to (they have the Hanna HI93713 shown in the original post). I think the LFS employees would get distracted and either record the wrong information or read things incorrectly...

    ARID E18 reactor (Phosphate Control!!!)

I never took you to mean this was a rip off, just that it was expensive. In that regard I agree with you. It's not necessarily cheap, but in my case, it's worth it so far. BTW, welcome to the forum! I'm not a big advocate of buying expensive reef equipment unless it's proven itself and shown...

    ARID E18 reactor (Phosphate Control!!!)

This isnt for everyone. As I stated in my first post, I'd tried everything else and had no luck or middling results. What I was spending in water changes and GFO alone made this a no brainer. If you can get by with a refugium where you remove the algae afterwards and actually export nutrients...

    ARID E18 reactor (Phosphate Control!!!)

I paid $550 plus shipping for mine. However, they were on sale at the time... I dont remember what they are regular price. Contact Tristan at Pax-Bellum and they'll tell you.

Their website is still under construction, however, it does have contact information (Email): http://pax-bellum.com/# I originally contacted them through there.

    ARID E18 reactor (Phosphate Control!!!)

Had water tested again today: Nitrates are still undetectable. Po4 has risen to 0.02 ppm via Hanna HI93713 (same one used before). I'm assuming that the increase in Po4 is due to me removing the chaeto. Instructions state not to remove more than 1/3 of the chaeto, but I pulled out at least 2/3...

    ARID E18 reactor (Phosphate Control!!!)

So far, I'm very impressed with it. I realize that two weeks is not a long term test.....but so far this has performed exactly as advertised and I dont expect that to change. I could see how this would work well for someone with limited space/no refugium in their sump. Tristan told me that for...

    ARID E18 reactor (Phosphate Control!!!)

Similar concept to an ATS....not a refugium. The goal is nutrient export. This is most easily accomplished with chaetomorpha since it grows the fastest and doesnt go sexual and release nutrients back into the water column. In this regard, it's actually more efficient than a typical ATS because...
