Anyone kept a Ritteri long term?

I have 3. As Nick said I beleeive getting a good healthy, happy anemone is the the key with all anemones. I personally dont believe that anemones are any more difficult than any corals that we keep including "easy to keep" leathers". I think if you can provide the proper conditions to help them...

    Who will win this battle?

I would bet on the euphyllia. I have used torches to keep hadoni's at bay. The torch does have a bigger bunch than the hammer though..

    sandsifting starfish?

Mostly the beneficial micro-fauna that many people rely upon if they are keeping a deep sand that they want to function properly for years. Many of them will take prepared foods but will prey upon the micro-fauna first

    reverse flow sand bed filter

not only an old approach, but a poor one for a reef tank. you will only have aerobic bacteria in the sand bed and no anareobic. It will become a detritus trap and a time bomb that will need periodic cleaning to keep iyt from exploding, and/or frequent cleanings to avoid nitrate buildups

    Rose Anemone Question

Most captive BTAs tend to loose their bulb appearance and many people have come to the conclusion that they do so when they are feeling comfortable with their surroundings. HAve a look at any that have been doing well for years and tell me how many have bulbs. Then ask those people when they see...

    Carpet anenome

There are a few different species of "carpet" anemone. S . hadonni are proven fish eaters, but i dont think I have ever heard reports of giganteas eating fish. I have 2 giganteas, 1 for about 15 years and the other for 3-4. Neither has ever eaten a fish. I dont think that I have heard of...

    etss skimmer won't foam

Give it time. They are one of the best but one of the most tempermental skimmers out there when it comes to oils and/or what ever in the water. When you finished up your other plumbing is what caused it to stop skimming. Be very patient. It can take a few days for the initial break in. When you...

    how to start overflow???

fill the inner box and the outer box, then thread an airline into the tube and stop it at the top of the U and slightly to toward the outer box. Now suck. That will suck the air out and start the siphon. Hopefully your airline is long enough so you wont get a mouthful. Remove the airline tubing...

    My coral doesn't look well!!!

FWIW, Its anthellia, not xenia, but close enough. Can you get a better pic of teh black stuff. If its "melting off" it sound like it may just be some cyano, or some algae. Were some calcium supplements were added (without adding alk suppliments) which crashed your alk and maybe allowed for some...

Cool, Ill be there too. If you dont have a good supply of rotifers by then, and if mine are doing well again, I could bring a starter culture for you.

Baby Clown Fish..... Calling Elmo18 S.O.S.

I agree. Get the book. Many consider it the "must have" for clownfish breeders.

    Any one have rotifers?

Too bad that my cultures just crashed after keeping them going for over 6 years. Your not too far from me and I would have been happy to ship you some for free (UPS ground for about $6 total). I will have my cultures up again within a few weeks. I know that it wont help with this hatch, (or...

    Cutting centerbrace of a 36bowfront

I am not recommending it, but I cut the center brace from a 45 tall (36x12x24) well over 10 years ago, and its still holding water.

    ClownFish Developement step by step

FWIW, I dont use a skimmer until my fry are into a 40 breeder tank with 2-500 babies. They get their first sponge filter (in a 5 gal tank) at about 14 days (5-10) AFTER metamorphosis. For the first few days I only keep about 1 gallon of water in my larval tanks for the first few days while...

    bristleworm in the refugium??????????

not only is it OK, but highly beneficial to have them in the main tank. They are the best poop eaters that money can buy, and not all poop makes itto the fuge .
