    acclimating corals ?

I very rarely acclimate corals at all. I float the bag for about 15-30 minutes depending on how long they have been in the bag and then I just "dump" them in the tank. Have never lost a coral from it.

Just to make sure I'm doing this right

Votech powerheads don't take up much room and are much more efficient then a closed loop system. As far as equipment goes it looks like you have made some good choices in that category. I have a 75G right now and I believe my sump is a 30 Long but I could be wrong. I am in Alaska right now...

My new generator arrived this morning

To have a whole house generation system set up you have to have an automatic transfer switch that changes the power feed from the main line to your generator line. You can actually feed your house from a small generator a couple of different ways. If you generator has 220V outlets on it then...

    equipment setup question

IMO your are asking for a disaster if you are going to keep your tank within 1 degree temp swings. Your corals will get used to that constant temp and if something happens such as a power failure and you get a temp swing then you are going to have more problems compared to corals that have been...

    My 300----- the Rebuild

I bought James's skimmer and it is AWESOME not a lick of problems. It skims great and restarts everytime the power goes out or I shut the tank down to feed. I think I am going to get one for the 300 when I get a chance.

That is an awesome chalice. No way that I could afford to buy something like that, that is crazy. But I don't think that it is anyway the owners fault for the coral being so expensive. He is not FORCING anyone to bid on it. THere are alot of corals that are extremely expensive for what you...

    What Corals Can i get?

That is the best skimmer that you have asked about so far. Just make sure that you do have room for it. That is a pretty small footprint so I would think you would be OK. But make sure before you decide.

    What Corals Can i get?

An even better option would be to set up an overflow on your tank and use a sump underneath. There are so many better in sump skimmers and plus you get a lot of equipment out of the tank.

    What Corals Can i get?

Take a look at bubble magus skimmers I believe they make a HOB that is about $80 brand new and gets better reviews than any of the skimmers that are listed on that craigslist add. I belive that it has to go inside the tank though.

    Sufficient for a 55g?

If there is a brace there regardless if it is acrylic or not it WILL MELT IT!! I had 175 MH on a 55 and it melted the brace in a matter of about a week.

    What Corals Can i get?

Excellent advice from returnofsid. Even if your tank is a 55 gallon, three feet long by 15" wide isn't much swimming length for a hippo tang. Also as stated a skimmer cup should fill in less than two weeks even with small feedings. I have a 40 gallon with only three fish in it and the cup...

    moving tank soon

Are you moving houses or just moving tanks? If you don't have the rock out of the water for very long and the extra rock that you add to the 75 is fully cured or base rock then you shouldn't have a cycle. Most people are going to recommend new sand as the old stuff will be very nasty when you...
