    Mini Water changing system....

Nick, I will post some more pics when I get home tonight. But yes there are bulkheads in the bottom of the bucket that extend through the plywood to hold the buckets in place. Beeba, I just put it away in the garage until I need it. If I had a permanent address this system would be permantly...

    Mini Water changing system....

Scooterman, Rubbermaid makes 38 gallon "Brute" garbage cans that are pretty stout and are fairly inexpensive.....

    Mini Water changing system....

Yes... That way I can choose either bucket for the pump to draw from.

    Mini Water changing system....

I have to siphon the water from the tank into the waste side of the system. The good thing is that the pump will pump it from that container into a drain.... Keeps me from making messes and having to lift those things..... :D

    Mini Water changing system....

Hey Everyone! This was a weekend project that will make doing water changes much easier. It is precurser to the one that will be built for my 375 which will use 38 gallon Rubbermaid garbage pales.... What it does... 1. Mixes the water and salt for a change 2. Heats the water to 78 degrees 3...

    new tank pics[dial up beware]

ProPs, The tank is looking great! I made a small frag rack out of eggcrate a few weeks ago. It works great so long as the hermit crabs don't knock them off. Speaking of hermits, I was using a small shell to mount a pocillapora (can't spell) to. I noticed the frag walking around the...

    KNOP S-IV Ca Reactor???

Klever, The whole purpose of a calcium reactor is to drop the PH in the chamber holding the media to make it acidic. The more acidic water brakes down the media liquefying it so it can be delivered into your tank. As long as the reactor can do that it will work fine. Reactors that are fluidized...

    KNOP S-IV Ca Reactor???

Hey! That seems very expensive. Barr Aquatic Systems has a dual chamber design that is awsome. All the acrylic is 3/8". Everything is flame polished and individually leak tested. They are also much cheaper than the one you are planning purchase. Here is the link: http://www.barraquatic.com/cal.php

Very cool! Have you thought about using a SCWD on the return? You would be set... :D

When did hearsay become proven science??

Everything you read on this board is "hearsay" if you don't have first hand knowledge by doing the testing yourself. Lets go farther into it. What about the people who are supposed to be gurus on these subjects. How do we know that their data and testing is valid. What makes them gurus? Hearsay...

When did hearsay become proven science??

Don, Good Idea! You should spearhead the research on that one... :D

When did hearsay become proven science??

WOW! I believe most of your questions can be answered by you doing a little research. I can't type fast enough to make it worth my time to answer everything... All those questions have logical answers. Example: Skimmers remove disolved organics from the water (crap) if you don't remove it then...

    Drilling glass

Hey! I saw a thread on RC about using a dremel tool and a round diamond tipped bit for cutting holes. You will need to draw a circle on the glass and start scoring it with the bit until it cuts through. Then clean up the hole with some emery cloth. I don't remember the # for the bit though...

    refugium substrate?

I have a combination of caulerpas as well as spaghetti algae and some halmidea which has gone sexual. Xenia is a great nutrient export and I have that in my sump as well.....

    refugium substrate?

I agree with the cost. That stuff is not cheap. The 115 gallon sump/fuge going under my 360 gallon will be a sugar sized sand mixed with the mineral mud. Another reason I went with the mud is for its granular size. Much finer than any sand you can purchase. I have been running my original mud...

    refugium substrate?

Hey! I have a small sump/fuge made from a 10 gallon tank. I use a couple inches of mineral mud as the substrate of choice. The mineral mud is supposed to be high in minerals etc creating an excellant platform macro algae growth. I am not convinced a deep sand bed will not crash eventually.
