    I got a new toy.

I ordered from BRS a dual reactor for gfo and carbon, because I was constantly battling algae. Wow, my tank is crystal clear now. It dropped my phosphates from .50 to barely registering. I then removed the gfo, per BRS’s instructions, but have it ready to put back online if need be. I left the...

    White film

I seem to have developed a white film on the surface of my water. You can’t see it from the top, but it is prevalent when you look from the bottom. I recently switched salt mixture to Aquacraft Bio Marine Salt Mix. That’s the only thing I’ve done different. I contacted the owner, Michael De...

    Onward and upward

I had posted earlier that I was giving up the hobby. I’m 70 years old and I have some debilitating health problems and doing water changes was getting to be hard for me. My son Worked on and finished my Sump room, plumbed my RODI and installed a cut down 55 gallon drum and built a stand for it...

    Rollermat question

I’m thinking of getting aa Aquamaxx AF-1 rollermat or a Bubble Magus Filter Rollermat Instead of a filter sock, which I currently use. Does anyone know if there is any smell from the expended filter roll while it’s still wet? The Clarsea filter rollermat says that they make their rollermat...

    Giving it up.

I am strongly thinking of giving up my aquarium. Due to my declining health, it is getting harder and harder for me to take care of it. I’m 69 years old and doing the water changes and other maintenance is becoming increasingly more difficult. I only have 4 fish left in my 120, and I am having...

    Back again

I am happy to see RF return. I really enjoyed it from before. I don’t know if I am still an admin or not, but anyway, it’s good to be back. I’ve been in the hobby for about 18 years, I have a 120 gallon tank, 55 gallon sump, mixed reef. If anyone has questions, I’m not an expert, just a hobbyist.

    I’m back.

It’s been awhile since I was on RF, it’s good to be back. I have been battling some health problems and I still continuing the war. I still have my tank, 120 gal., 55 gal sump, mixed reef. Pictures will follow when I figure out how to work this iPad.pro, it’s a new journey for me.

    Hurricane Matthew

I am praying for all of our fellow reefers in the southeast US and the Bahamas, especially our good friend Krish. Please stay safe.

Does anyone know what this is on my One Spot Foxface?

    29 gallon sump

I have a 29 gallon DIY sump that I have been using for the last 4 years but upgraded to a 55 gallon sump. I have cleaned it up the best I can. There is a little bit of coraline crusted on the bottom but most of it has been cleaned out. There is an intake area that measures 10" x 12"w, then I put...

    Refugium substrate

I am putting in a new sump in my fish room and I was wondering if Miracle Mud is the best substrate that I can put in the refugium portion? Is it all hype or is it as good as they say. I have heard it is a waste of money and also that it is great stuff.

    New sump in the works

Petco has their one dollar a gallon sale on aquariums right now so I bought a 55 gallon I will make a sump from. It will be an upgrade from my 29 gallon sump. I will have to wait until I heal up more and the weather warms up. I am excited.:peace:

    Feather dusters

I have tons of those colony feather dusters (the little white ones). Does anyone know any critter that will eat them. My melanurus wrasse won't eat them, nobody eats them in my reef tank. Any suggestions?

AquaticLife Smart Buddie RODI booster pump review

After spending 1 hour and 40 minutes to make 3 gallons of water I finally got fed up and decided to invest in a booster pump. After researching booster pumps I decided to get the Aquaticlife Smart Buddie. I liked the features of this one because it had a low pressure switch that as I turned off...

    Flipper Algae Scaper

I received the Flipper Algae Scraper for Christmas and I wanted to do a review for anyone thinking about purchasing one. My glass has never looked so clean. I got the large size scraper and the blade side plows through the coraline that forms crusty spots on the glass. The other side wipes the...

    A couple of questions.

I have a pink bar gobie and he is paired up with a red and white randalls pistol shrimp. When I moved the fish to our new house I couldn't find the little shrimp anywhere, I looked for several weeks in the gobies burrow, but nothing. So I set out to find another pistol shrimp and I came home...

    Milwaukee Digital Salinity Meter

For my birthday I received a Milwaukee Digital Salinity Meter from my family and what a neat device. It gives me an instant reading in a normal light condition, no adjustment needed like a refractometer. I love it.... well not love, but I really, really like it.

    Filter Socks

Who uses filter socks in their systems? What are the pros and cons to using them? Opinions? How often do you change them out?

    Wrasse compatibility

I have a Melanurus (Hoevans) Wrasse and a Red Head Salon Fairy Wrasse. Would a McCoskers Flasher Wrasse be safe with these other two or would I end up with a blood bath.

    Fish Compatibility

There are many charts for the compatibility of fish between species, but I have never found a compatibility chart for knowing which fish get along with other fish within their own species. What wrasses will go with other wrasses, which rabbitfish can coexist with another from its own species...
