Skimmer sucking more water than air

To me it just sounds like blockage. A good disassimble and cleaning and some good ol hot water pushed through the tube in to the water should do the trick. Good luck with it.

    2 Chamber Calcium Reactor

Great reactor Sherman! I really like the way it was built, i have thought about one very similar in the past. I have thought about doing one of these. is the 3/4 acrylic really nessasary or could it be done with 1/4th? I would of thought 3/4 is over kill for such a project but I do not know a...

    Question on Long Tentacle Anemone/FrogSpawn

I am unaware of anything like that and I have had both in a tank before for several months.

    Majestic Angels

My experience has been very little with them but I did have a few in the LFS I ran for a while. Very pretty really neat fish, I kept them in the 150G tanks for the swiming room and the extra stability of those tanks over the others that were in the store. I had some Damsels, if i remember...

    VHO vs PC

I know, sorry I was kidding. it is hard to tell some times when I am joking. Anyways, do you have any suggestions for 4-5 bulb reflecters for DIY hoods?

    VHO vs PC

ok, so a T5 is basically a PC bulb that connects like an HO bulb. I have heard that Icecaps can overpower T5's well and do a good job at keeping them running. I understand the reflector part (i did some reading before you posted) and I will have to look in to that, i might polish off a few...

    VHO vs PC

Scooterman, (or anyone else for that matter) What makes T5's better than VHO's though? VHO for one puts out a lot more wattage than (as far as im aware please correct me if I am wrong) T5's.

    Anyone want to help me?

    1. Will I have to change to metal halide lighting? MH are very useful lights for keeping corals and the like, there are some things that find them to bright and do not do very well. That can be over come by placing them properly within the tank though. VHO's are very good lights as well to...

    UV Sterilizer......pros and cons ?

UV can be helpful, specally if you are having problems with green water or your fish and corals are getting sick all the time. I would not personally run them often but like Krish said, it comes down to what you like. It can be helpful in preventing problems before they happen but it might cause...

    VHO vs PC

MH's are not allowed within my apartment complex. As for the SPS and Clams bit I have kept a few of each under VHO's before with every good success rate on frags and growth. Granted I chose very carefully and spent a lot of time waiting for the tank to be ready for that kind of setup. I have...

    VHO vs PC

I am not really asking what is "best", I have run VHO's before and I really liked them and I have never run PC's, I just have never owned them. I am looking at running a tank with a few fish (I am thinking of a 50g corner) and mostly LPS and softies, I am also looking at maybe hosting a few SPS...

    29g modifications

I am looking at buying a 29g tank and go Nano with a sump roughly the same size. Most places I have spoken too about acrylic 29's are fairly expensive for the tank its self (100+ for tank only +90 (give or take) for drilled and since im poor and my wife does not like to spend money much on...

Berlin skimmer questions, can you help?

i had one of thoese skimmers back in the day, you might pull the venturi out and clean the whole thing out if you bought it used. Check the tubing too.. I always ran one with mag 9's that worked, you can put a valve on the outlets to raise the water level but I found it worked well with out...

UV sterilizers, are they worth it?

I used one for about a year, if I was to get another one I would use it in a quarintine tank only really. The major downfall with it in your main tank is that anything and everything that passes through it dies. I know it can add to cycle time and when you add new coral/fish, the cycle that they...

    Canon A75

I have a Canon A75, its not the best camera in the world but I am hoping to be able to take some shots with it, all the way up to Micro's if it is at all possible. I really need to sit down with it and learn how to use the poor thing for those kinds of shots. Is there anyone else out there with...

    RO/DI auto topoff question

Thanks, I was reading online today about having an RO/DI on a auto top off and how it could hurt the production and cause "leeching TDS" due to the on off effect of the auto top off. I can understand how that could become a problem in that sort of setup so I think I will go with the tank and a...

Silencer For Air Input To Protein Skimmer

You could add filter floss and carbon to that and filter the air a bit as well. It would cut back a lot on the dust intake to the tank and as long as you dont compact it, you should be fine on not restricting air untill it a clogs. Mind you to clog one of those it would take at least 2-3 months...

    Tragedy Strikes Again

Man I am really sorry to hear this. Those chillers can be a scary item when they break down. If I were you I would look in to other fan options from a different source. I work with computers all day long and have had tons of fans die, clog, lose bearings, catch fire and a few other problems in...
