    Problems with Xenia

Sorry I didn't follow up on this, I've been busy. I would like to point out that is was the emerald crap. He has been living in the sump for about 6 weeks now and the xenia is growing faster than ever. It will be time to start fragging again soon.

    water temperature

I have a cheap $4 fan from walmart that has been about 4 inches from saltwater for over 10 months and is still running. It's over the sump too, and has some salt creep on it; although, I have very minimum salt creep over all so...

x-max tree worm rock, bisma rock....

Just an update. I left the cage on it for 2 weeks. I took it off about a week ago and I've only seen the angel pick at it a couple times (just a quick nip and away too, no staying and picking for 5-10 seconds). The worms still don't come out much during the day; anything scares them in... change...

8/7 the night the lights went out

I have some experience with generators, here are my recommendations. -if it looks too good to be true, it is. will iether suck gas, put out less power, overheat, or in most cases all of the above. -Honda is a good brand, fuel efficient, quiet, and reliable. They are the most expensive though. I...

    Problems with Xenia

The nitrite reading is "0-10" because there was a hint of pink, but not as dark as the first level (10) on the test kit. I do have weak lighting 260W PC 10K/actinic. I clean the bulbs every month and they are 10 months old. I should probably start changing them.

    Dow Flake Warning

Any word on if the new dow flake is going to be safe? I didn't order a full 50lb bag, just the 16 cups that they package at buckeye so there is no lot number or date.

    Problems with Xenia

So... I'm not sure about the iodine, I should be getting replenished through water changes. I do 15-20% twice a month. As for the ca, it has always been on the low side in my tank and the xenia grew rapidly. It's tough to say... I know xenia is sensitive to changes so I'm trying to figure out...

    Problems with Xenia

That's what I thought, but now I'm thinking he was just there eating the dead stuff. A couple of the smaller pieces flat out died, so I took out all the stuff that had the same symptoms... Now I'm left with about 10% of a colony that was about a square foot. I'm thinking the green polyp leather...

    Dow Flake Warning

so... I just ordered some dow flake last month... Is there any way test is this is the new stuff or the old?

    Problems with Xenia

I have a large colony of Xenia umbellata, one half of it is doing poorly. The problem started about3-4 weeks ago (very minor), but got bad about 3-4 days ago. I have had it for about 6 months during which it expanded about 10x and I have been selling frags. It is still pulsing, but it is...

    water temperature

I think the problem/misconceptions with the mini fridge chillers are that some people try to use them for the wrong reasons. if you are using one to cool a tank that peaks at 85F with no cooling in the middle of the day, then it will work great. If you are trying to constantly cool a tank that...

    Need a little advice.

Just an update (Thanks again for the help): After learning the value of calibrating my testing devices I am not battling a low PH problem. We started to turn off ceiling fans during the day to conserve energy and I started to notice a drop in PH. I'm guessing that lack of air movement is...

x-max tree worm rock, bisma rock....

Yup, but it gives me some time to figure out what I"m gonna do. Also, when I got home yesterday I watched the tank for a bit and the coral beauty never touched it... I'll probably take this cage off in a few days and see what happens.

x-max tree worm rock, bisma rock....

I checked out the coral last night and it had, seemingly, great polyp extension, about 2mm. Here is a picture of my temporary solution for keeping the Coral Beauty away from it:

x-max tree worm rock, bisma rock....

that's encouraging... I hope I have the same success. I would much rather have the specimen live elsewhere than risk it dieing from predatory acts though.

x-max tree worm rock, bisma rock....

hmmm, that really sucks. I love this piece of coral. I going to cage it off with some of that plastic white square stuff, and transport it to my brothers tank this weekend.

x-max tree worm rock, bisma rock....

I got this x-mas tree worm rock or bisma rock or... not really sure what to call it. But anyway, it's a fantastic piece and I really like all the different feather duster style marine worms. The problem is that my Coral Beauty Angel is constant circling the tank during the day and picks at the...

    Need a little advice.

Yeah, I got the ACIII because I love gadgets and I'm an IT guy, so the idea of being able to check my tank from any device with internet access is attractive. However, the combination of not knowing any better and putting too much faith into the accuracy of my probe was about to turn out really...

    Need a little advice.

Indeed I do, I'll probably be paranoid about the accuracy of my PH probe for months to come... do you know if the lab grade probe for the ACIII is any more stable?

    Need a little advice.

So I got my calibration fluids yesterday and WOW, what an eye opener... my 1.026 salinity was actually 1.023 and my PH is now 7.8... not 8.7... The PH was a drastic change, I think I may recalibrate again tonight just to make sure I did it right.
