    Let's Talk About ~Algae Control~

in time the diatoms will burn themselves out when the silicates are gone, there are snail species that will eat it and take the edge off, but the process will happen and it just takes time until they are completely gone for good.

    light brown sand?

you minor nutrients... no one tests them really but every so often you come across a chem nerd. worth a shot.

    light brown sand?

outside of their shells huh? There are a few other people with the same problem.... not an acclimation thing. I know high potassium levels can paralyze them, but I don't know why they come unattached from their shells like that. You are not the only one who has that problem though. Any chance...

    light brown sand?

I don't think it does. they aren't grounded I think? Not sure, but I have been shocked before b/c of faulty heaters, (4 times! different heaters..bad luck or I keep buying the wrong brand),....inhabitants were unaffected. Maybe it was low?

    HOB Skimmers

I tried a Jebo once, and no matter how low or high the air was it would come pouring over eventually. Not sure if it was just mine, but I wasn't happy with it. Just my $.02

    Let's Talk About ~Algae Control~

Great thread, lots of good advice throughout. I know this has all been said before but this is my no algae routine: 1. QT - keeping the invasive macro algae species out of your tank makes everything so much easier in the long run. No bubble algae, byropsis, gelidium, etc... 2. Nutrient export...

    light brown sand?

+1 diatom bloom. Your tank has bio available silica on it from the new sand, (anything new basically does this, put a piece of pvc pipe in the tank that is new and you will probably see some brown spots). CUCs wipe it out easy, or you just let it burn itself out on the silicates and then the...

    High flow + Chaeto?

chaeto doesn't need high flow though. always found in low flow environments in the wild, and it does pretty goof this way. Besides, I would rather have the detritus in the chaeto I am going to prune than in the tank I want clean. If it can double as a prefilter than all the better!

Who's keeping pipefish in their reef?

i keep pipefish, I have had like 20 of them over the years. Been easier to get on myids than I have heard. Some only took pods though, I have a gulf pipefish on pods now.

    Sump size for 75 gal

at least someone here can read. :) Still working on that. :) sorry pay no attention to what I was talking about. put that on the base and it will be fine.

    Sump size for 75 gal

up to your preference really - if you want it to be able to run longer if you let it go low, then you will want it low as possible. what kind of pump are you using again? Most pumps don't have these kinds of issues as most sump pumps take from the bottom anyway.

    Florida Harvest regulation changes coming

oh yeah- you are right about rics. They are already talking about making them jump. It depends on how the haitian ones go in the us.

    Florida Harvest regulation changes coming

shouldn't effect pricing on most things. the divers are already monopolized, so prices are sort of fixed from new competition. The price at the dock is usually the price it takes to get competitive supply internationally shipped and through customs. Never met a Florida diver that didn't base...
