A 750g SPS system is born

The height thing is not really as big of an issue for "new age" air stone skimmers as the pumps used to drive them are both powerful and efficient. IMO, there is nothing that really touches the numbers of the new age airstone skimmer except for maybe the bubble king so I think that would be a...

A 750g SPS system is born

What I'd like to see is an equally sized airstone skimmer vs. a BK skimmer. Match airflows and see which one comes out on top. Peace, John H.

A 750g SPS system is born

Well, of course this will hold true since the 24" by 3' tube has twice the volume of the 12" by 6' tube. :) Peace, John H.

A 750g SPS system is born

http://www.evolutionaqua.com/display.php?class_id=2&display_id=53 It'll run you around 100 watts to run it... Now that is energy efficient. :) Peace, John

A 750g SPS system is born

I made a mistake on airflow rates... the airtech 120 delivers about 120 L/min at 2 m depth, NOT 120 L/hr at 2 m. Sorry about the confusion. :) That's alot of air. Haha Peace, John H.

A 750g SPS system is born

Yo Alberto, My airtech 40 is pretty damn quiet. Sequence pumps are louder than the airtech airpump when you've got everything all hooked up, so sound shouldn't be an issue. I know you were looking at the Alita, so let us know how that goes. Redeyereef really likes his SL56 (sweetwater...

A 750g SPS system is born

Whatever the cost... I bet it still cost less than a Bubbleking skimmer. :) Peace, John H.

A 750g SPS system is born

Alberto, You truly do not mess around. :) Let us know what pump you decide on and how the skimmer performs after break-in. Peace, John

A 750g SPS system is born

I don't agree with this statement. If you were to put Alberto's skimmer on a smaller tank, say 70-100 gallon total volume, It'd be hard to get any foam into the cup.... I imagine it would all end up on the sides of the skimmer even before it made it into the cup. Sure, you are skimming the...

A 750g SPS system is born

Hey Alberto, Awesome setup man. I see so much promise in that system. :) In two years after a lot of your colonies have grown out, that thing is going to be ridiculous! Peace, John

    air skimmer for 300g setup

How's that skimmer still treating you? Is it really cranking out the skimmate now? Peace, John H.

    air skimmer for 300g setup

Plus, that is a lot of new saltwater in that tank there. :) Peace, John H.

    air skimmer for 300g setup

Tommy, Glad it's breaking in for you. I think that if you give everything a very solid warm or even hot water spray down and a good solid handwiping/ wash down, then you actually get foam formation much faster. That PVC tubing did look pretty dirty to begin with, didn't know if you had given...

    Anybody Out there?

    air skimmer for 300g setup

How large are these bubbles? The larger the bubbles, the more turbulent and the less likely it is to form a solid foam head. Also, I have to ask... is this running w/ freshwater, fresh saltwater or actually on your tank ? Peace, John H.

    My Mojo Special

Big E, The LT19 will most likely be more than enough for your purposes and you will most likely need to bleed off a substantial amount of air to get the stones to produce the bubbles that you want. :) I believe that Mr. skimmer, which is 12" by about 5' tall used 1 LT19 to drive 4 6" stones...

    My Mojo Special

Hey LB, This is what I would try to retrofit an ER skimmer. I would get 2-3 of the 3" stones ( go for the ones w/ the 1/2" threads on them)... fine pore of course. Don't get the barbed fittings as I think the threaded fittings allow for more mounting options. Take some PVC (cross PVC fitting...

    My Mojo Special

redeye, How'd you point the stones down at 45 degree angles. From the pics it looks like they are just pointing straight out from the bulkheads? Peace, John

    My Mojo Special

Now, that looks frothy! :) Makes me wish I had bought the larger stones now, but I'll just bleed off more air to make the 3" stones work better. Thanks for the update Redeye, I think as we learn more about the working parameters of the stones and air pumps that drive them, the performance...

Redeye, You've got my pumped about this new skimmer. It'll be nice to be able to shut off my loud Mak4. Peace, John
