    snails, snails, snails

Just curious as to why one would put mud in a tank over 30 years old to add bacteria? Shouldn't the tank be established by now?

    Ideal Reef water temperature?

Exactly what has been said. 78F-83F is a 5 degree swing and not a problem. Even a bit more wouldn't be a problem. The point is which I think is being missed over and over is a swing shouldn't take place over a short period of time, but gradually. Yes, corals and fish are exposed to changes in...

    Ideal Reef water temperature?

Doesn't ich have a close association with rapid temperature fluctuations? Anyways, I think those that want to allow their tanks temperature to fluctuate all the time should do so freely. It's your tank. Just don't get fooled by the misconception that because in your country it's 90F...

    Ideal Reef water temperature?

Maybe it's because half of the marine life anyone has in their tanks were born and raised in aquariums and didn't come directly from the ocean so they try to stick within the range of temperature we call "proper" or the norm. The same goes for frags. How many people here get their corals and...

    MH only on sps?

Depends on brand 14K bulb as some are more blue than others so it will show up differently. Some 14ks will appear as blue as some 20K's.

    Ideal Reef water temperature?

People have been keeping their tanks anywhere between 77-83F for years without any problems. Why change things now? You can't compare a little glass box to the ocean. You need stability. That's all I have to say about the topic.

    Overflow and Pumps

Once your return pump doesn't produce more flow than your overflow can handle, then you will be fine. Find a pump/overflow combo that matches your ideal flow rate and you are good. Your overflow will never drain more water than what is pumped into it.

    Ideal Reef water temperature?

I am talking about drastic changes not changes period. Nothing wrong with changes in temperature. It is drastic changes that is the problem over a short period of time. Your temperature rises 5 degrees in 20 minutes due to a malfunctioning chiller and then back down 5 degrees the same way and...

    Ideal Reef water temperature?

If big changes in temperature didn't matter then people wouldn't float their bags when they bring new fish and corals home before adding them to the tank.

    Ideal Reef water temperature?

Consistency is key. Keep your temp between 78-83F without big swings over short periods of time and you can't go wrong.
