    corals closed up

    My corals are soft (kenya tree, torch). They don't seem to stay closed for very long. I have VHO lighting at 110 Watts each-2 white/2 actinic. It is a 90 gal tank. Water parameters all seem ok, but I don't have tests for magnesium. My lights are a little old, though.

    Stupid question: what does it mean when the corals are "closed up"? Is it a water quality thing, light thing, or just what they do? They are not closed all the time just occasionally.

    I have a turbofloater (sp) and have wondered that as well. It seems to produce lots of skimmate, but have noticed most hobbiests on here use bigger/better ones. I know the white is 12000K, but the actinic I cannot find a Kelvin rating. I would like to just upgrade the whole system :D

    I tried it on my glass tank, and it seemed to do a pretty good job. I don't know if it was just dirtier than most, but I don't know that it cleaned better than anything else would.     As always, your a wealth of knowledge, it seems mine are turning kinda brown as well. It seems to be all my coral, starburst, zoas, candy cane. Hard to tell if the toad stools are affected. :D I was hoping I could use this lighting, although it probably would be cheaper to upgrade the lights ;)
