    Zoa ID: Spiderman or Tubbs?

Hey all, I can't remember what these guys were called. I did a little research into Coralpedia and other sources, so I'm thinking they might be spiderman or tubbs blues. I'm open for suggestions. They can grow pretty fast and are a little less than a cm in diameter per polyp. Nice red...

Hobby Breakdown: All livestock must go!

Hobby Breakdown: All livestock must go! I'm breaking down the last of my reef tanks. After a disastrous move, I lost the bulk of my most precious livestock. I have about 30lb of porous live rock, but some of it is riddled with mojano. I do have an awesome centerpiece which is absolutely covered...

    Skeleton Density

Have you ever tapped your coral and have a limb just fall off? Or maybe your coral have skeletons akin to steel? I'm wondering how dense a coral's skeleton should be. Acropora, the reef builders, tend to be able to stand their ground, but should a pocillopora fall apart at a tap?

    Red Chalice Slime

Hey all, I did a little tank reconstruction and ended up moving my red chalice. Albeit a little rough handling, it started to release some slime. This was not a new experience, so I figured that it would just subside in a few hours. This morning I woke up to a cloudy tank with dead sps and...

    Inert Sculpting Medium

Hey all, I am looking to sculpt some rockwork out of broken china and am looking for an inert, simple solution for binding them all together. I was using pond foam, but it is too unyielding and does not give a lot of time to fine-tune the design. Any suggestions?

    Bellingham Area Reefers

Hey all, It has been some time since I was last active on this site. Since moving to Bellingham and starting up some Biocubes, I have now realized that my tank is overgrown and I need to trade frags and get back in touch with the community! So, Whatcom reefers, comes out! Let's see if we can...

    Clam Calamity!

Hi there, My friend is having issues with keeping clams. Having gone through a number of crocea, maxima, and derasa, none of the clams seem to do well at all! There are few coral in the tank as it is, only keeping some patches of GSPs and miscelleneous red mushrooms. The tank in question...

    Avatar Pics and others

It looks like all of the user avatars are missing in the forums for me. Is this a new functionality, or something which will be fixed soon? I'm more of a visual guy (yes, it sometimes mixes me up when people change their avatars!). :)

    Smelly RODI Water

    Nice. Thanks, MCoomer! :)

    Smelly RODI Water

I've recently changes my filters and filter housings on my RODI unit (leaving the unit outdoors in sub-zero temperatures is not as good an idea as it sounds). The last batch of water with the new filters has a plastic/chemical odor. The closest smell I can relate to it is actually the DI...

    Softie Die-off

Thanks for the feedback. I do not dose iodine, but probably could benefit from its use. I have more mushrooms and anemones than SPS or LSP. The xenia who managed to migrate to the other side of the tank are doing just peachy. They're fat and radiant.

    Softie Die-off

Hi all, Some xenia and a kenya tree are dying off in a localized region of my tank. In this particular area, the xenia have split from one stalk, to a 4x6in square, creeping along the rocks and back wall of the tank. For a while, the sick xenia in question had displayed thin, frail limbs. I...

    Nano?

I think that it's anything above 30 gal. Pico tanks around around 10 or less?

    New copperband died

Do you dissect all of your deceased specimens? An autopsy and post-mortem for passed fish would likely advance the fish keeping hobby even further, if we could share it as you have done.

    Pondering New tank

The Point Defiance zoo and aquarium in Tacoma has a really interesting horseshoe crab tank. It's about 12"-15" deep at most, but the top panel of glass is slanted by about 20-30 degrees. This makes for excellent top-down viewing (something you'd want for a clam tank). Their tank fits inside...

    Cowfish in Peril

I'm thinking it's a buoyancy issue. He may be able to make a comeback if I can keep him well fed and not stressed... Good thing we're coming up on a weekend!

    Cowfish in Peril

I'm pretty sure that I know the answers to the questions below, but it helps to hear it from other sources. I awoke to find my cowfish laying on the substrate. This is quite uncommon for this 2" fish, who usually sleep near the surface, and is never one to remain still in one place. Rousing...

Anyone have experience with no-copper Ich treatement?

Metronidazole won't do anything to the chemistry or bacteria in your tank. It's mostly used for parasitic infections, as well as fungal, I believer. Mike has an excellent point, though. A stable environment with regular water changes will aid you in your battle against ich or most other...
