    Tips for Photoshop Processing

Yeah, I figured that you knew the advantages, Brie, but just wanted to point them out to anyone else who happens upon the thread :) - Matt

    Tips for Photoshop Processing

There are actually some major advantages to using adjustment layers rather than adjustment commands from the Image menu. You can: 1: Selectively apply the adjustment by using a layer mask 2. You can change the adjustment at any time (they're non-destructive) 3. You can change the blend mode of...

    Tips for Photoshop Processing

NP :) Did you mean that you're using CS3? (I'm using CS4). And did you figure out what the tools were that I was talking about... I'm not sure exactly which ones you were referring to... but I pretty much only created curves adjustment layers down there. - Matt

    Adjusting White Balance in Photoshop

I saw a post with this title from a few years back, and it didn't look like it was working... so I thought I'd try to update it. Technically covers two methods, I guess. Here's the video, in High Definition (720). Runtime is about 5 minutes, size is roughly 7 megs...

    Tips for Photoshop Processing

I set the "Feather" settings for the Marquee tool to 250px (in the second vid). That's above the main image window, where the brush settings would be if you were using the paint brush tool. :) It actually does more than round them... it makes the edges of the selection fade from selected to...

    Tips for Photoshop Processing

I'm not sure that this will be useful to anyone here... but I'll post it anyway. I've made a quick (...not quick enough) video tutorial about one way to process reef tank photos, with more videos coming. For those of you who are already pretty familiar with Photoshop, this will probably just...

    Picasso clown glamor shots...

Very nice indeed. I'm a little surprised that you were able to get sharp images without flash at such a low shutter speed (looks like 1/50th sec.). Impressive! - Matt

    Some Photography Tips

I suppose that it's also worth mentioning that every lens has an optimal aperture setting at which it has the highest resolution and depth of field before the resolution is diminished by diffraction (caused by light bouncing off the edge of the aperture leaves). For most lenses, it seems that...

    Some Photography Tips

Brie, those are some beautiful photos :) I don't actually see any chromatic aberration in the goby at this level of enlargement, so you must have done a good enough job in ACR. Unless some of what looks to me like actual detail is color fringing... but that would be much worse CA than I've seen...

    Some Photography Tips

Thanks! If your tank isn't very mature yet, it might actually be really cool to start taking photos of it now so that you can periodically take shots for comparison, and (if you're careful about it) you could use Flash or some movie-maker program to morph them together to make a time-lapse...

    Some Photography Tips

OK, FWIW, I just updated my blog post/guide with a few more photos... they're not really instructional or anything, they just take up space. http://www.gorephoto.com/blog/?p=626 Here are a couple of them... - Matthew Gore

    Some Photography Tips

Last week I took some photos of a gorgeous reef tank in Kirkland, and it was my first real attempt at macro reef tank photography. I ended up writing a blog post about it (with a few more photos) with some of the general strategies I had in mind going in. You can read it here...
