    Kenya Tree or ???

If it is not the Neon Green Palua Nepthea Leather, then the website where I found it has it mislabled. (not too surprising for that to happen!) Whatever the case, mine looks exactly like theirs.

    Kenya Tree or ???

Great call! I googled the first one you mentioned and found this picture: Neon Green Palua Nepthea Leather That looks exactly like the one I have. Thank you Sid!

    Kenya Tree or ???

The more I do with saltwater, the more I feel like a novice! I have this coral that I have always called a Kenya Tree. The other day, I was given a Kenya Tree (in a trade) and it made me question my identification of the first one. I realize there are many different types of saltwater critters...

    A Mandarin Success Story!

I keep meaning to get some mysis shrimp... just never seem to have the time. Now that I know Kermit will eat bloodworms, I will supplement his diet with those occassionally. I have been noticing that the only time I see him with his long pointed dorsal sticking up is after lights are out and I...

    A Mandarin Success Story!

Kermit has a fin like that, but rarely ever has it up. It's always laying down flat.

    A Mandarin Success Story!

I have no clue about his/her sex... don't know if you can even tell them apart. "He" is just a generic term to refer to him.

    A Mandarin Success Story!

I have had a 20-long reef tank for almost a year now. You can see pictures of my tank and livestock in the Introduction section. In terms of reef-keepers, I am still a newbie, but I have leaned heavily on the advice of others and lots of study through the internet. I wanted a Mandarin since...

    Should I ask???

I have a Mandarin success story... guess I'll post it as a new topic.

    A late introduction

I joined this forum in early January, but never really introduced myself. I went to a reefer's meeting, and posted about a dying coral (Echinophyllia - It is recovering well). So, maybe I should say, "hi" and tell you who I am. In July 2009, I had a heart attack and six-way bypass surgery...

    Is this a coral?

Time for an update on my Echinophyllia. This photo was taken today (2/4/11), less than two weeks after my original post. You can see that the coral has almost completely lost its bleached out appearance and has filled out to cover most of the skeletal bumps. I am hand feeding it frozen shrimp at...

    Is this a coral?

I fed more brine shrimp last night (still didn't make it to the lfs for mysis)... put it right on top of the mouths. Those little nobs (tentacles) were a little longer and latched onto the shrimp immediately. I stuck around long enough to watch it consume some of the shrimp. Today, more of the...

    Is this a coral?

Amazing! I have already seen results! Much of the yellow color has turned to brown. I am assuming that is a good thing, caused by taking it out of the strong light. I don't know if it consumed any of the brine shrimp I put in there last night, but it seems like the skeletal bumps are less...

    Is this a coral?

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Well, I waited until 2am and went to feed the Echinophyllia some brine shrimp... don't have any mysis on hand. I don't know if I can save it or not. There were no tentacles and the centers of the mounds were only...

    Is this a coral?

What if I put it in my refugium? Low light and very low flow.

    Is this a coral?

Okay, I will move it lower in the tank... farther from the light. I don't have real strong lights on my tank. It is a 20-long tank with two full-spectrum 32watt t-8's and a 15 watt actinic. So, how do I care for this coral? I am told it is an expensive coral and I would sure hate to lose it if...

    Is this a coral?

I googled all of the things that have been suggested here and none of them really look like what I have. It is like a skin on the rock. It doesn't ever come off of the rock in any way. Someone suggested that it may be a sponge... Hadn't thought of that. That's a possibility. Here's a more...

    Is this a coral?

It is definitely more than a skeleton. Skeletons are not slimy and will grow algae. Whatever this is... it is alive. Just to clarify, I am talking about the patch of yellowish/brownish stuff on the rock. The left side of the pic is a huge coral skeleton (about 7-8" in diameter) and I have...

    Is this a coral?

I hope I can figure out how to post pictures here. I took a picture of a piece of live rock with what I think is some kind of coral. If you can help me identify it, I would be grateful! It is slimy to the touch and no algae will grow on it. It conforms to the shape of the rock like coraline algae.
