    thickness of acrylic for...

My advice...acrylic creeps under Continuous load, which in simple terms means....if you plan to keep the tank for more than 5 years full of water, it has to be designed with the proper thickness or the tank will bow!! I saw it happen to my old tank! Choose the recommended thickness given a...

    Earthquake safe classroom aquarium?

Make sure the stand is strong enough to resist the overturn forces. Typically assume that the weight of the tank is going to be apply horizontally at the center of the tank... So in order to prevent the stand from collapsing it needs to be stiff/strong enough to resist that force. So the...

1/2" Acrylic too thin for 30" Tall Tank?

Does anybody out there have a tank this tall with this thick of walls? If so has it deflected over time? I am thinking of buying a new 48x22x30" Tall Tank with 1/2" Acrylic, is this ok? Or is this going to be a problem...i.e. I should not buy it? I believe it is pretty well braced on top...

55-Gal In Progress (1 MB of Pictures)

Well, sad night..The grouper died tonight...I bought it back in 1998, so he was 10 years old. I rearranged the LR a week ago, and he placed his head under his usual rock...but I did not leave enough room when I rearranged it and he got trapped and died. Kind of sad, but I think he had a good...

55-Gal In Progress (1 MB of Pictures)

I also want to give him a better home...I plan to buy a 125 gallon tank (48"x24"x24"), hopefully in the next 12 months or so. So I am looking for a good deal on a cool reef tank and stand...used or new.

55-Gal In Progress (1 MB of Pictures)

Unfortunately I lost what little soft corals I had during the Storm of 2007. But the grouper did survive despite 60 degree water for 3 day....now he is doing better than ever. I have a new skimmer, a octopus recirc 110. It works great and my water quality has greatly improved. All of the bad...

    How did you learn

I started my tank before the days of forums (early 90's)...I had to go off of trial and error and talking to my lfs but they did not know much. So I did the best with what little was known. I did not do much experimentation like I can do today because of the internet. I kept things really simple...
