Here are the final asembly pics. It went very smoothly. In fact everything went perfectly all except that the bottom 2 inches of the settling chamber cracked so I cut it off and now that chamber is shorter. The complete reactor holds exactly 2gl of water. Holding fittings with tape how the...

Today was pretty busy but I got around to a few things. Mainly I glued the top caps and union together and I did a little experimenting with weld on 16. It pretty much glues anything together. Here you can see how I glued the bottom bowl to it's base. The base is a 4" to 2" reducer. I subed it...

Here are the first pics of construction. I have only cut and dry fit the main chamber pieces but it is cool seeing it come together. In this pic you can see the really cool manual miter saw that I used to cut the tubing and pvc fittings. here is the saw in action cutting the end bowl down to...

    New Project - skimmer

That's gotta be cast tubing. Way to flawless for extruded, and what a deal for the product. In my neck of the woods they want 40$ a foot for 4.5" OD for cast. That's crazy. I need to stop selling crack and start selling acrylic.

I wasn't aware that the tap handels were so hard to find, sorry. Do you have any good pics of your reactor? If so, I'd love to see em. Happy building. Blane

Why not get a tap handell for your tap? The JG fittings are mighty handy. I'm sure that you could get a tap handell from home depot or harber freight. Just a thought.

Check out the compact config. I think that it should only take up a 6/10/15" footprint. Compared to the 8/8/24-30" that a single would take up, I don't think it's a lot of horizontal space to give up. Here it is...

Thanks for the info. I will look into the mj 900, and as far as the second pump, it was only a thought but the ball valve is a better idea. The second chamber can also be accessed through the top for cleaning.

I have been looking at numerous powerheads. One of the nice things about this setup is that pump choice isn't as difficult as a single chambered reactor because the first chamber is the "mix" chamber, so a powerfull PH can be used. Also you won't have to worry about moding a pump to get really...

I will use the JG fitting as they seem like the best simple option. As far as the mixing tubes and transfer tube, I think I'll use 1/2" pvc glued into the side walls. Here is a final design model. I'll keep you posted on the construction. Thanks for all the great info.

Is it possible to use brass fittings on the reactor or will this cause a problem?

Here is a full view of the reactor. It has been revised to acomodate the ideas given. There are air bleed valves on both caps and a twist valve on the outlet line to acomadate air bleeding. There is also a check valve on the intake side. Let me know what you think.
