    Lumatek MH Ballast.

Ed, I've been using these ballasts in 250W for a while now. I have one of the new model and 2 of the previous model ... the improvement is something to do with radio frequency shielding and the new purple jacket that has inlet and outlet sockets for easier disconnection. They do overdrive the...

    The problem with DSBs

 Seems like the local wildlife would have needed the protection then.

^ I would toast you with a Grand Marnier, Paul ... but the sun has reached above the yard arm now and it is time for work :)

    Want feedback guy's??????????????

Judging by user feedback in the forums, the Solaris still have a way to go in the reliability stakes.

    Want feedback guy's??????????????

400W of lighting produces just as much heat, be it MH or T5. MH concentrates it and T5 spreads it ... but at the end of the day it is pretty much the same. There are some great T5 lamps available nowadays and applied correctly can sustain just about anything in coral species in tanks up to 2'...

    The problem with DSBs

It is noticeable as well, that there is a general absence of coral :) Paul, as a 'middle aged' reefer, I have thoroughly enjoyed many of your threads about how it used to be. LOL ! I do remember. Thinking in reef aquaria seems to be drifting towards the importance of bacterial equilibrium ...

    Emerald Crab and Bryopsis

Be mindful that the holding levels with Mg are dependant on the level from which dosing is started.

What ever happened to Anthony C?

I think Anthony has withdrawn from a few forums to pursue his publishing :)

    bryopsis help please.

I bought 6 gallons but my Mg was already up there (1800 ppm) from dosing with magflake and epsom salts so it didn't need as much Tech-M. Nobody is saying, but it is evident that Tech-M has an ingredient that bryopsis doesn't like. Be mindful of your SG as you raise the Mg levels. If you can...

    bryopsis help please.

^^ Ta, jnarowe ... feed corals with Tropic Marin Pro-Coral Zooton and a couple of other snake-oils. The turbulent water movement and the big clown wrasse does keep a fair amount of stuff in the water column. :)

    bryopsis help please.

@ Plack ... Do you have experience with this or is this just your speculation? :) Anything can happen in reefing ... I've been doing this hobby since '93 ... because our understanding of the dynamics of aquaria is a mere drip in the ocean. Glide on over to RC and read some of the results...

    bryopsis help please.

With regards to increasing magnesium to kill off bryopsis, there is general consensus that the only magnesium supplement which achieves the eradication of bryopsis is Kent Marine Tech-M. In my own experience -- took 2 years to kill it off -- the following manesium supplements did not work...

    Testing ORP probes with Iodine

Boomer, if I didn't want to make up 473ml of the solution ... say 50ml ... what proportions should I mix? Cheers, Tone :D

Bryopsis? The Devil! Have it in my tank, all over my clams for 18 months ... did the dark periods of 1 week off and 1 week on for 3 weeks and suceeded in killing one of my clams and creating serious 'psychological' problems for the other 3. So long as there is any level of PO4 the B will thrive...

A couple of years ago, whilst scrapping corraline off the glass the blade dislodged and fell onto the mantle of my big squammie. In attempting to retrieve it, the clam closed shut on the blade and it cut through the mantle. It healed without problem. Tone :)

Barry, I have been battling Bryopsis sp for well over a year ... have done the Mg thing, etc., and am currently doing week long periods of no lights to kill it off. Here's the rub, I have 4 squammies, one is about 2' another 1-1/2' and 2 smaller ones of around 1' each. Will the dark periods harm...
