I'm shopping for a dig. camera, under <300, but i don't want to go digital SLR, because this is mainly going to be a little carry around camera for the misses. Anyone got any suggestions?

I'm actually a photographer by profession, but it's all easy still life style shooting, not <6" <12" shots of moving animals, close ups of zoas, macro shots. Anyone got a suggestion on kind/make? I've already got a canon g6 already, which simply does not focus under 12".

i've seen a lot of point and shoots that will focus really close cause they have super macro mode and what not, personally i have an older version of the casio exilim, 7.2mp (more than my slr) and such, but i haven't tried much in terms of macro shots yet, i did however buy a underwater case for it DiCaPic WP-400 and used it in hawaii, and that worked out well, tonight i'll see how close it can focus
i am not realy impressed with the noise and such from the camera, but i'm kinda picky on that i think
but it is really slim which is one of the main reasons i bought it, you might consider one of the nikons though cause many of them have close up attachments that you can buy to get under 12" focus for sure, and wide angle ones for that matter
my camera cost around $170 i think and then i got a $50 insurance i think mostly cause i was taking it underwater

side question, what sort of things are considered easy still life shooting? i have a feeling it's just a different skill set then macros and such cause you probably have to set up lighting a lot or something

I shoot jewelry for magazine ads/catalogs, it's nice because it's not behind glass & doesn't move(at least when i'm looking). I currently use a canon g6 at work, and actually use it's so-called macro settings for 95% of my shots already. It works well for shots 10" away and great at 12"-16" away(which is where you wanna be anyway for full necklace shots or groups of jewelry). I'm jealous of alot of zoa shots I see here, and looking to get similar results for larger print work (8x10 300dpi) without resorting to $100-500 lenses.
