Well I work near my home on somedays and just happened to stop in for lunch, as soon as I walked in the door I smelled burnt plastic and heard sloshing water fearing the worst was happening I rushed into my living room to find water at my feet and the surge protector sparking and smoking. I wasnt smart enough to think before I acted ( hum water and electicity ) not a good combo but I guess I got lucky cause I didnt get shocked and managed to unplug everything. only one of my breakers had poped and the surge protector did not even flip I am so lucky I got home when I did, the protien (cpr bakpak) skimmer had a modified maxi 1200 instead of the rio 600 it came with and had been working fine for months untill the air feed fell into the water and the over flow hole became blocked and at a rate of 1200gph water started to spew air born out of my tank on to all of the electric and into the basement (unreal) by the time I had arrived it had emptied almost all of the water to the bottom of the pump approx 15 to 20 gallons in a 125 just enough to expose the tops of my coral. all I can say is even though all of this happened I was very lucky and just thought I would share my near disaster story. all is fine now

Sounds like you need to put in a GFCI recep. This are the elec. recep's that are designed for wet locations. IE: Kitchen, Bath, etc. the recep should/would have tripped more than likely in this situation. If you do have GFCI recep. might want to look at replacing it cause it doesn't look like it's working all that well..

wow man thats hell bad because ive been thinking about getting a cpr bakpak sumthing to watch out for
how were your corals? they would of just had there first low tide did they all produdce there mucus which is a cool part of the hobby thats not seen alot if ever

Man that is terrible! I am glad to hear that you are safe though, if you need some help some time as Susie said (i know you dont know me but i have done cleanups before heh who hasnt in this hobby?) i dont mind being called on. Just give me some warning.

Thanks for all the responses I am glad to here fellow reefers willing to come to aid. I think I have got it all under control for now and as for the low tide I think all in all the corals that were exposed made it out alright excpt for a bare spot here or there on my pavonia but I am sure it will recover quick. I think I will invest in a gfi outlet, I thought I had it covered with the surge protectors but I guess not. Live and learn I guess
