I recently added 2 super actinic VHO's and one Super white VHO to my lighting set up. I also went from a pendant style to closed canopy. I'm still running two 250W 14K Hamilton's too. Here's a couple shots. Happy new year!

very nice carpet anamone!!! i never see those anymore..it looks like it is hiding in the shade...my lfs got one from someone breaking down their tank..he was giving it away to anyone..it was about 14" wide..it was huge and very bright blue!!! i would have taken it, but i didn't have the right lighting at the time

Its always shaded. It has grown from round 8" to 12" in the last three months tho. So I think its doing well.

BRETT Wonderful tank! I have always liked the lighting on your tank.

I did!!! I wasn't going to say anything cause I thought it was my eyes. They are so gorgeous and 2 instead of 1. Wow, how long have you had them?? Silicone's the secret huh??

Yeah the shop that had them had four in stock. They were hand caught Hawaiian specimens so I knew they were the more hearty of th Moorish Idols, and they had been in the LFS tanks for three weeks, and they ate right before my eyes! Woo Hoo! Two turned out to be sweet because they school together. Silicone may be the secret  but I am also feeding New Life Spectrum "marine formula" that Bob Fenner recommended me.

Thats just too awesome. Congrats on the "2" moorish idols. Thats sweet and the fact they are eating so well is incredible.

I seen a couple at shark reef the last time that i was there. How often do you feed? Are they pretty aggressive feeders?
By the way, tank looks awsome:)

I'm trying to feed 3 times per day. I am lucky that they are eating like pigs. Partly because they are Hawaiian caught, hand caught, and were well cared for by Eric at the Shark reef. The reason they are SO difficult to keep is they normally under just the stress of capture, and then being enclosed in a tank, refuse food and starve. On top of that, nori (red, brown, purple, and green) don't have the nutrients that the MI's need to stay healthy. The "Spectrum" food is the only known food that will keep them going for long periods of time, as opposed to a couple day/weeks. Just getting them to eat the spectrum is where you need to get lucky. The MI's at the Shark Reef are very healthy happy fish. I certainly wouldn't recommend the species unless a person is willing to put forth alot of effort to keep the fish not only alive, but nourished. Otherwise they are awesome.

What kind of anthias do you have? I think I see one Bartlett's (the yellowish one). I'm pondering what kind of anthias I want in my system. I've got one Bartlett's already and he's doing great, very aggressive eater, very plump and healthy. I've got two purple queen anthias in QT, but they aren't eating, and only after buying them did I find out they are very picky eaters and frequently starve to death in captivity. I'm considering getting a few more Bartlett's, or trying out Ventralis (if I can find them), since they're so gorgeous.

Yeah, I think the bartletts tend to be less finicky. The other two pink anthias are dispar's and they are doing well. The dispars seem to perch alot more above rocks and also hide more. I think bartletts are probably your best bet.
What size tank do you have?
Also WELCOME TO REEF FRONTIERS!

nice tank pics. I love those neon green centered acans in the mid right of your tank (at least I think that is what they are).

Thanks man. I think what you see there is my blasto colony.

I just yanked out the 14k hamiltons and threw some 20k hamiltons into the mix. I'll snap a pic tomorow night.
