Personally I have never seen blue coralline, doesn't mean it isn't though. I would look closely if you can and see if there is any kind of siphon holes. More commonly it will be a photosynthetic sponge.

If coralline (never know ;) ), the best method of getting around the tank is seeding. Allowing the coralline spores to spread throughout the tank. Best means is through scrapping or direct flow on a surface already containing coralline. IMO, time is your best ally. Maintain good reef chemistry and let nature take care of the rest.

Miniature brittlestars are quite common hitchikers. A good addition if so. You will most likely find more.

If the water parameters are spot on, the next possible problems will be, stress, tankmates, foods fed and proper nutrition. One of the problems with keeping benthic sandsifters is ther inability to gain proper nutrition from common food types used to feed other fish. They need highly enriched foods (lipids, HUFA's, proteins etc..) to do well. Many species do not adapt well to captive care long term.

Do you know the species of the fish and is it eating at each feeding?
What is your main food source for the fish?
How long have you had the goby and what was the last fish added?
Do you use a QT?

Cheers
Steve
