My above the tank refegium drains into my tank but it lets lots of air into my tank. That would not be so bad but then that air gets sucked into the closed loop intake. Then you get lots of micro bubbles in Z tank !
Any ideas.

I thought is was working better but it was just the pipe from the tank up to the refegium was getting clogged. Now that it's all clean and moving 475 gph into a 10 gallon area I am seeing the problem again just like it was a year or so ago so this is a continual problem!

make a 'ramp' out of acrylic or run a sponge from the refuge to the tank. I did the sponge trick to a high mounted CPR Backpak and now I'm getting no splashing or microbubbles into the tank.

You could always choke it back with a gate valve so no air enters the drain pipe but there are risks with that method. If you had a second bulkhead for a failsafe then youd be in the clear. We could always drill one.

I have the same kind of set up and no bubbles: What I did was install a durso in the fuge, and the output is under the waterline of the display. plus I have an "emergency" drain that is above the waterline so if I see bubbles, I know the main drain is clogged.
