Acclimating corals/polyps from Compacts to MH

I am wanting to save for MH for my 80gal reef. I have compacts and a t5 on there right now.
I was told to acclimate them to MH is to take egg crate..put over the top of the tank..and take about 7 sheets of screen mesh...put ontop of the crate...then every 4 days..take a sheet off..to acclimate them to the MH..so I dont kill my pretty corals.

I have been reading on MH..but I do admit I dont know nothing about them...just on what I have been readin..but I am more of hands on..etc. SO
advice? Also..I am not sure what i would need in terms of what size to use for an 80
