So, I bought a 24x24x12 shallow tank, but cracked the back the same day :heh:. I took out the broken panel. Well my question is. Can I use acrylic to replace the panel? The glass is 1/4 inch thick. Thanks for any help

Acrylic and glass do not bond together well enough. I would say to replace it with another glass panel. This way you will be safer in the long run.

Cheers,
Alex

a 24"x24"x1/4" glass panel shouldn't be too expensive. Just make sure you use Aquarium Sealant to install it and wait about 48-72 hours before re filling the tank. I used caulking edgers to shape my silicone sealant to a professional look.

+1.

I 100% agree with Alex on this. Sorry to hear about your troubles. Good luck getting it fixed. :)

You want to use glass and either momentive rtv 108(clear) or 103 (black). You can also use SCS1200. Regular silicon won't hold. Also Glass and acrylic can be bonded. You can use Dow 999 or 795. (795 is actually stronger than 100 series but has a loooooonnnnnnggg cure time) It is rated for acrylic to glass. Also I believe it is weld-on 1802 that bonds acrylic to glass.

Also as a side not I am in nooooooooo way condoning building a hybrid tank. AGE can build a hybrid tank from PVC bottom and glass, but it is a complex process and many have failed trying to replicate it, but the chemicals do exist.
