My current established tank has sort of a crush gravel substrate in it. I do have a Sand Sifting Star and a Fighting Conch. I was wondering if I should add some sand to the tank to make it easier on them.

Do I

A Take out the crushed stuff and add sand

B Just add live sand

I would guess I would want to add live sand at small intervals. Where do you get live sand at?

Well you could buy live sand or better yet ask a friend or your LFS for some. Add small quantities at a time, once a day. Let your critters do the mixing :)

The finer grained sand will work its way through the crushed coral and go right to the bottom of the tank therefore making it pointless if you want it as a top layer. Best bet would be to remove a section of the crushed coral at a time replacing it with the new sand and work your way over time changing it all out. It's the safest way to do it because good bacteria lives in your substrate and removing it all one time could possibly shock the tank. :)
