I have a 55 gal reef in my care that has a 3" sand bed in it. I would like to increase the depth by an inch or so to increase denitrification. Would this help? Can it be added on top of existing bed without problems?
Thanks,
Greg

it would help some. You need to do it slowly only about a half inch to thre quarters at a time. Let the critters and bacteria in the sand adjust then add more. I did it to mine. I used a piece of pvc and a funnel to put the sand where I wanted it. It will cloudy you water for a few hours.

Yes you can add to it, but do it slowly, only 1/4th to 1/2 an inch at a time, spread out over a few weeks.
