I just purchased and installed an AquaMaxx HOB1 skimmer. Seems to work very well...., maybe too well? The bubble flow into the collection cup is extremely high. The cup is actually collecting mostly water up to the overflow outlet with bubbles above that. If I plug the silencer chamber second tube connection it slows the flow down quit a bit but still getting all water. Is there a way to tune this down or is this just a breaking in period thing?

I had the same problem with mine when I first got it. I had nothing in the tank and the collection cup just filled with water. This is normal, I contacted Aquamax via email and he told to make sure I start with the collection cup high, very high. You want the cup only about !/4 to 1/2 of an inch into the chamber, the rubber gasket should be almost at the bottom edge. Make sure that the black overflow tube is pointed inward so water can flow back into the skimmer. As your skimmer continues to work the bubbles will get lower and lower and you will have to adjust the depth of the cup. It is a great little skimmer, work great. It will still get water in it as it works, but nothing like you are getting now. Give it time, just make sure as you get along to keep the bottom of the collection cup just a hair above the bubble line.

Also, There are two inlets into the silencer chamber. The yellow airhose connects to one. If I plug the other the flow slows down considerably, however the manual says nothing about plugging this other inlet??

Yes, inward. If you are looking at the skimmer to where the tank mounts are facing you, collection cup on your left and yellow tube on your right, the black overflow points right. back into the unit. I had mine facing the other way when I first got it and when the cup filled up it overflowed all over the floor and emptied my tank down to the intake tube. It needs to flow back into the unit, once your unit gets broke in the water won't ever get to the overflow as long as you clean it out everyday or every other day. The yellow tube on mine is plugged into the left tube, the one closest to the collection cup. The manual has a lot to be desired, it's not totally useless, but it's close. I hopes this helps.
