algae ?

Many opinions and none really matters much either way.
In the 70s, we considered the bright green algae vital to water quality, these days, algae is looked at more as a nuisance.

It consumes nitrates and phosphates. If you scrape it off and leave it in the water, will break down releasing it's absorbed nutrients. The new food will feed bacteria and continue the cycling. Really matters not, as all part of the mini-cycles leading to a ready to stock stable tank.
