I am looking for suggestions. I have a 70g flatback corner bow with 150 watt halide and 130 watts of pcs. I have had a green bubble tip in there for two years and all is well. That anemone and perc are going to a new home.

A friend of mine gave me a 2" gold stripe maroon. Looking for an anemone for the little guy. Something with color and at least semi-hardy. I've read they'll host with H. magnifica (ritteri), E. quadricolor (bubble tips), and M. doreensis (long tenticle).

I have contemplated changing to a 400 watt pendant if this changes your vote.

thanks

Keep in mind Clowns dont need an anemone to be happy in a tank.

What kind of lighting do you have over your tank? What are your tank parameters? Do you have a sandbed or is the tank its going in BB?

I would reccomend staying with either BTA's or LTA's (M. doreensis) as they are among the easiest anemones to keep in captivity. BTA's like to bury their foot in rockwork and can be kept in moderate lighting. LTA's bury their foot in sand and need more intense lighting.

I would not attempt to keep H.magnifica anemones as they are very demanding and generally dont do well in captivity. IMO, they dont ship well and that causes the majority of the problem in keeping them. But I've also heard several accounts of Magnificent anemones doing fine in tanks for a year or two and then suddenly dying for no known reason.

Here are some links for you to read over....

OKay,
I'm an idiot and didnt read your post properly or fully and somehow missed that you already had a BTA and 150 watt MH's. Your clown should be fine in the BTA. I had a maroon that happily took to an LTA in my 20 gallon tank.

You should be just fine with what you have.

Awesome reading list, thanks. I am thinking about a colored LTA in that it usually stays where you put it since I am adding this to an established reef.

Anyone know how 'sad' clowns get if they need a new anemone? For example, if I take my percula away from his BTA and give him an LTA?
