If you are looking at the T-4 or T-3 pumps, they are suppose to be very quiet,, but they have been known to add a few degrees of heat to the tank.
I have a pan world pump and I am not real happy with it. I has a fan that is noticeable.
I bought a T-4, but haven't had a chance to put it in service.

If it is just to be a return I like quiet one pumps. The 6000 is simular in flowrate but does not have as high a shut off head in feet pumped. It is very quiet. My skimmer and the fan I use to cool the tank are both louder by far.

Yes Steve brings up a good point about the use of the pump would also help determine what size you will need or want to use, 1,200 gph may be too high for a return most like a slow smooth flow across the sump for skimming & other filtration devices & heating etc.. & depending on the size of your tank you may want more for a CL?
