I'll try to post a picture later. Over the last couple of months I have had these critters multiplying like crazy in my tank. They are brown, about 1/16-1/8" long and look like a small food pellet but they move around. I don't see any legs or appendages of any kind. Any ideas what they are? Are they a pest or just part of my ecosystem?

Thanks.

I agree with Adam, sounds like flatworms, but would need a picture to confirm. Maybe google flatworms and see if it looks similar. :)

Thanks for the tip. After further research they are indeed flatworms. (Convolutriloba retrogemma). I had no idea they were pests. Suggestions for getting rid of them or at least cutting down their numbers?

higher flow rates in the tank will help. they are feedign on something so cutting out their food supply or removing excess nutrients will also help. this worked for me when I had a an excess of them and took a month or 2 but eventually they all died off.

If in a hurry to irradicate, Salifort "flatworm Exit" works well. You will still need to fix the underlying problems, but this will clean em out in a hurry.
