Any mod ideas for keeping macro out of Hydor Pico powerhead?

I have a hydor pico powerhead in my fuge to add a bit more circulation than the gravity fed system I have set up is offering.

Problem is, it fairly quickly gets clogged up with caulerpa.

Any ideas of a way to keep the caulerpa out of the intake? I was thinking outting some sort of screen around it, but haven't thought of a nice and simply solution to do this. If anyone has an idea, I'm all ears

Does it actually stop the pump from working all together or just really reduce the flow? This is the one I was telling you that I use in my fuge and it gets a lot of stuff stuck to it but doesn't seem to stop the flow ever.
