Hello again everyone! So I know this is a site for reefkeeping, but I'm in desperate need of advice for my brackish Figure 8 puffer, if anyone can help.

About a week ago, I noticed a funky brownish bump (much resembling a zit) on the right side of his lower jaw, away from his mouth. It's recently "opened" and it doesn't appear there is anything attached, like a parasite, but the bump hasn't closed or reduced in size, just opened now.

Not sure if anyone can help, but I'd appreciate any advice. I can't seem to find any answers anywhere else. I would upload a pic, but I can't seem to get a clear one since he's an active little thing and won't sit still.

Thanks for your help!

You really should put this in Marine Fish Discussion with Lee Birch forum. That would be the best place to get some help on this puffer. Wish I could help more. Someone just had a problem like that with a marine betta fish. Take a look in the fish pages.

Thanks! I just posted a new thread. Hopefully someone can help little Charlie :-/

Most of my fresh water tanks are brackish --- to some extent. I just add marine salt --- for my brackish fish --- it also keeps the water hard and I add Baking Soda. Do not go full salt with the little guy ---I have a few puffers and use 4-tablespoons of marine salt and 1-tablespoon of Baking Soda for a 3-gallon bucket. I read somewhere to not take the Puffers to full salinity.

It seems to keep my freshwater and brackish fish happy --- they live until they die of old age.

Enjoy

We keep our little guy in brackish, too, with no intention of putting him in complete saltwater. The place we bought him from said the conditions in which our little guy was raised suggest we go no higher than a 1.004-1.005 in salinity. So far, he seems to be perfectly content in his conditions, so we are perfectly content not to change them!

Glad to know a fellow brackish puffer-enthusiast is also having success :)
