Hey TG, I'll probably be doing the same with my next tank, I want to do a 280g glass, so after I drill a dozen holes or so in it, I'll get IAP to make me a coast to coast, that design is so cool!
Hi Scott! Wow - that's so cool! I didn't realize they made AGA tanks that big, thought they were all acrylic in the huge sizes? I estimated the weight of my 260 at about 4K lbs! The acrylic is 3/4 inch thick. Yeah, the coast to coasts are awesome! Did you read Greg's articles about overflows? Those were Great!!! http://reefkeeping.com/issues/2003-07/gt/index.htm
Hi Mike!!
Yeah, it's that link below my last post. It's actually a series about sumps, but the last article is devoted to overflows. Some wonderful info there!
Mike you have something I can look at in a weir, I'm not sure of the difference. I planning having two boxes on each end (top to bottom) and the 6" coast to coast connecting the two, either that or one large center box with extending top overflows on each side, across the back.
Curt that looks like an external hang on overflow, I see no reason to use that in a tank that will be pre-drilled at the factory. I may actually let them drill all of the holes according to my design.
Yup....weirs are pretty much hang-on overflows on steroids. They don't have the same issue with siphon breaking that most overflows have and you can make them any size.
